Barbecue Strength Agility Intellect Willpower 7c 3c 3x 8d Hand Size: 4 (25) Edge: 2 Origin: While he's the seventh in a line of Boston firefighters, Barbecue is naught but a normal human. There is no special legacy tied to his family's inevitable career path, and he has no special powers. No, he simply fights fires with his gear, guts, and skill. Powers: (none) Hindrances / Augmentations: (none) Equipment: Axe (s): Barbecue always has his axe handy, since you never know when you're going to have to cut your way into - or out of - a place. He can use this large edged weapon to inflict his Strength +4 in slashing damage, or cut through items of up to m.s. 13. Foam Cannon (i): whenever he sees a fire, Barbecue can easily put it out with this device. Fueled by a large back pack, this small gun can spray fire-retardant foam that cuts the intensity of flames with intensity 12 ability - enough to douse most fires on contact. Protective Suit (s): since his job description often has him hip deep in burning material, Barbecue usually wears this suit while on the job. This orange padded uniform offers him intensity 12 (+3) resistance to fire and heat attacks, and has an air filter of like effectiveness. Skills: Boxing (s): this skill allows Barbecue to defend himself should he lose his axe (which he often throws at people). He may divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed attacks, the last of which will occur as a contingent action. Guns (a): though he rarely has cause to use them while on the job, Barbecue has been trained by the military in the use of most guns. Whether they be standard, semi automatic, or fully automatic rifles or pistols, Barbecue may wield them at a reduced difficulty. Military / United States (w): though he wasn't originally military minded, Barbecue was recruited by very persuasive men to use his skills against the forces of evil in a direct fashion. As such, he's well versed in the Army Way (or, in other words, the SOP). Skill / Axes (s): though most firefighters know how to wield an axe effectively, Barbecue has evolved his use of such implements into an art form. When attacking a person, place, or thing with his fire axe, Barbecue may do so at a reduced difficulty. Thrown Weapons (a): furthermore, Barbecue has demonstrated a knack for effectively wielding his axe as a thrown weapon. Despite its awkward weight, Barbecue can fling it (and likely other axes and thrown weapons) at one difficulty level lower than is usually required. Contacts: As a member of the GI Joe team, Barbecue is generally well liked by all of his fellows (being the one firefighter on a squad with many flamethrower experts makes one popular). He can definitely rely upon his fellows for aid, as the Joes always take care of each other. Calling: Thrill Seeker: Barbecue isn't a fire fighter because of a sense of duty or because it's in the family history. No, he does so because he likes the wind on his face while riding a fire truck, the sound of the sirens, and of course the ability to smash things with his axe! Costume: When in action with GI Joe, Barbecue typically wears his fire retardant suit. It is a thick, mainly orange insulated suit, with big gray boots, a gray belt, a gray air filter on his chest, gray shoulder pads, orange gloves, and a big helmet to secure his breathable air. Personality: Barbecue is something of a party animal, and has demonstrated the ability to do rather impressive (and completely reckless) things with his body for the amusement of others. He tends to get along well with others, thanks to both his sense of humor and eagerness to entertain. Real Name: Gabriel A. Kelly, Grade E-4 Occupation: fire fighter, infantryman Legal Status: citizen of the United States with no known criminal record Marital Status: single Alias(es), if any: none Group Affiliation: GI Joe, Slaughter's Marauders (GI Joe sub team), the Eco-Warriors (GI Joe sub team) Height: 5' 10" Hair: brown Eyes: blue Weight: 180 lbs Other Distinguishing Characteristics: none. Story: Barbecue would have been the seventh in a lineage of Boston firefighters, had he not developed the itch to enlist in the armed forces instead. Persuaded to sign up by clever recruiters, Barbecue was shunted into the Army in no time flat - and wound up fighting fires anyway. Barbecue was so good at his job, in fact, that when GI Joe decided it needed a firefighter, he was one of the first people the team looked at. Once they made sure he had what it takes, they got him on board just in time to participate in one of its most infamous actions. While investigating Cobra activity in the Gulf of Mexico, Barbecue was assigned to the Tactical Battle Platform, placed on the site of an abandoned oil rig. While looking into what Cobra was doing there, Barbecue and company were attacked by a wave of Cobra Hydrofoils. Though they won, the platform was trashed in the process, as was the Gi Jane, the team's freighter. Luckily for Barbecue, the USS Flagg was standing by to rescue him and his new teammates from drowning! Not out of the fight, Barbecue was there for the next stage of the battle. When Cobra tricked the Joes into causing an explosion large enough to trigger a fault line and raise a chunk of the Gulf, Barbecue was one of many Joes that tried to push Cobra off that chunk before their lawyers could declared a sovereign nation, but they were moments too slow. Defeated, the Joes retreated and began a more covert string of actions against the terrorists, due to their having gained legitimacy in the eyes of the world. Barbecue was on hand for several of these missions, usually as a member of one of GI Joe's special missions groups. He served with distinction until the team's first deactivation in 1994, eventually returning to Boston to finally join its fire department. (Historical Divergence) Of course, when Cobra activity flared up again, it fell on the Joes to reassemble and take those terrorists down. And naturally, Barbecue was more than happy to do his part, returning to the team as soon as it called upon him to do so! * 1989 VARIATIONS * Costume: Blowtorch's Slaughter's Marauder's uniform is a fire retardant suit.
