Origin:

Like the majority of his fellow GI Joes, Airtight is a normal human - at least, in the physical sense. Aside from a predilection to hold his breath for minutes at a time, he lacks super-human abilities, whether they be based on genetics, special skills, or mishaps of Science.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

CBR Suit (s): this bright yellow, sealed suit is what allows Airtight to do his primary work for the GI Joe team, as it is equipped with a four hour supply of air, and has the ability to repel biological, chemical and nuclear contaminants with intensity 16 (+4) ability.

Gas Chromatograph (w): sometimes attached to the end of his rifle, and other times existing as a distinct device, Airtight may use this electronic sensor to determine the nature of any chemicals within his current area. It functions with intensity 10 ability.

Helmet (s): while it's primarily intended to maintain the viability of his breathable air, Airtight's helmet does provide him a small measure of protection from injury. Its size and bulk guarantees him intensity 8 (+2) protection from physical attacks striking him in the head.

Rifle (a): in the field, Airtight carries a rifle in addition to his hazard gear. He can discharge a single shot from this weapon to inflict his Agility +4 in damage, or a semi-automatic burst of ammunition to inflict his Agility +5 in damage.

Sidearm (a): though he can't always access this, particularly when deep inside a caustic vapor cloud, Airtight nonetheless carries a backup sidearm for emergencies. He can use this weapon to inflict the same damage that his rifle can.

Skills:

Boxing (s): a part of his basic training, this skill showcases Airtight's ability to defend himself unarmed when he has to. He may divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed melee attacks, the last of which will occur as a contingent action.

Chemistry (i): his claim to fame, this skill is the basis of all Airtight's work on the GI Joe team. It allows him a reduced difficulty on on all Intellect actions related to chemistry, which comes in handy when mixing things in the lab or defusing toxins in the field.

Guns (a): another part of his essential military training, this skill describes Airtight's ability to fire a weapon when necessary. Whether he's wielding a standard, semi automatic or fully automatic rifle or pistol, he may do so one difficulty level lower than is usually required.

Military / United States (w): the source of all his documented skills, this talent also represents an 'origin' of sorts for Airtight. It details that he's well versed in the Army Way (usually known as the Standard Operating Procedure), knowing such like the back of his hand.

Contacts:

As a member of the GI Joe team with a rare job description, Airtight has seen his fair share of oddball missions; thanks to this, he has worked with many of his fellow Joes in the field. As such, he can likely consider the entire team a reliable contact, since the Joes look after their own.

Calling:

Youthful Exuberance: though he's technically an adult and has been hammered through the military training machine, Airtight is still a big kid at heart. He knows that one mistake could cost him his life, but he simply doesn't worry about this (or else he probably wouldn't sleep at night).

Costume:

Airtight always wears his CBR suit in the field - though he only dons his helmet if the suit is actually needed. It mainly consists of a bright yellow, baggy plastic suit, with green gloves, green boots, a green belt, a green and black helmet, and a green backpack and equipment vest.

Personality:

Airtight is an unrepentant practical joker and science geek - he's the kind of guy you can't help but thinking of as strange. At the same time, he's a likeable sort that gets along with most everyone - even those folks who don't quite get what makes him tick most of the time.

Story:

Airtight was always the weird kid growing up. He was the guy in class that could hold his breath the longest, and who had the biggest collection of toy dinosaurs that you of. He didn't outgrow these (and other) tendencies, though - no, Airtight just got weirder and weirder with time.

A science geek, he gravitated towards the Army intent on using the Gi Bill for college, but found that CBR (Chemical, Biological, Nuclear) field work was much more satisfying, and allowed him to play merciless practical jokes on his coworkers (they tend to be a bit wound up).

Excelling at what he does, Airtight was selected to join the hand-picked GI Joe team. Surviving its torturous entrance exams, he proved his mettle on his final test, administered by Lady Jaye, when the team ran afoul of Cobra operatives doing the same with Doctor Mindbender.

Though Airtight and company were captured, they turned the tables on the evil Doctor's creations, his Battle Android Troopers and Creeper Vines, and sent him (not to mention Destro and the Baroness) packing. Once on the team, though, things got real interesting for Airtight.

He got to engage in all kinds of bizarre Special Missions, including the defusing of a chemical weapon left in Greenland by actual Nazis - with a little help from Alpine. The majority of Airtight's activities with the GI Joe team are still classified to this very day, however.

He served with distinction until the team's first deactivation, when the powers that be decided that Cobra was no longer a threat requiring a unique unit to keep it in check. This quickly proved to be an error, and unopposed, Cobra became an even greater threat to freedom.

(Historical Divergence)

When the Joes were put back in action, Kurt eventually hooked back up with the team, helping them on various major operations against Cobra, including the second Cobra Island Civil War, and Cobra's greatest attempt to conquer the world ever, World War III itself!

With Cobra seemingly broken again, the Joes were not deactivated prematurely a second time. No, they were kept around to maintain global security until the world could rebuild the major damage Cobra caused - and until Cobra's escaped operatives were finally put behind bars!
