As are the vast, vast majority of GI Joes, Wide Scope is naught but a normal human. He lacks special powers of any stripe, though the man does have some gear that might make him technically a high tech hero. Not that he needs most of said advanced gear to do his job!

Equipment:

Combat Armor: properly equipped for urban combat, Wide Scope wears tactical body armor while in the field (and often, while at base). This armor consists of various components that combine to provide him rank value 6 protection from physical attack, -2 RS vs energy assault.

Knife: you never know when you're going to have to cut something (or someone) in the field. As such, Wide Scope always carries a blade with him on the job, which can be used to inflict Slashing damage in melee, or to cut through items of up to m.v. 40.

Pistol: a backup should his main gun jam or run out of ammunition, Wide Scope always has this firearm handy. He can discharge one round with it to inflict rank value 6 Piercing damage, or a three-round burst of lead to inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage.

Riot Shield: supplementing his combat armor, this shield allows Wide Scope to see through it (thanks to its convenient eye holes) while benefiting from its protection. This device gives him rank value 20 protection from physical attack, -2 RS vs energy assault.

Submachine Gun: Wide Scope relies on this weapon while street fighting. It can discharge one round to inflict rank value 6 Piercing damage, a three-round burst of such to inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage, or be fired continuously to inflict rank value 20 Piercing damage.

Quirks:

High Stress Threshold: Wide Scope has a knack for keeping his cool, no matter how hot the situation around him gets. He should receive a +2 RS benefit on any ACTION roll required to determine whether or not he panics or otherwise loses composure under adverse conditions.

Skills:

Guns: naturally, as an enlisted soldier, Wide Scope has learned how to handle most modern firearms effectively. He can wield any standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol as if his Coordination was +1 RS higher than is listed above.

Martial Arts style B: should he find himself weaponless, Wide Scope is not in turn defenseless. He may attempt any unarmed melee strike, whether punching, kicking, or even delivering a head butt, as if his Melee score was +1 RS in value.

Military / United States: the source of all his marketable skills, Wide Scope is a product of the United States military engine. He can readily function in any modern combat unit, and has an instinctual understanding of the SOP.

Tactics: his claim to fame, Wide Scope is a tactical genius. The man can size up a situation in a fraction of a second and react accordingly. Those following a plan of action he devised should receive a +1 RS to related ACTION rolls as long as deviation from said plan does not occur.

Contacts:

Wide Scope is a member of the GI Joe team. The man can readily rely upon his fellows for assistance in a pinch (particularly SWAT experts like Shockwave), as the Joes are such a tightly knit group that they're ready to do just about anything another Joe asks of them.

Costume:

The uniform Wide Scope wears into the field is a tactical affair. It includes a blue shirt beneath a dark blue Kevlar vest, blue and off-white camouflaged trousers beneath dark blue shin guards, gray leather boots, gloves, and belts, a gray ski mask, and a blue cap with SWAT printed on.

Personality:

Larry is supremely mellow. He's the kind of guy that can fall asleep in a transport on the way to a mission, no matter how keyed up everyone else is. He takes almost everything in stride, and if there's anyone that you could describe as unflappable, it's Larry.

Story:

Larry 'Wide Scope' Kranseler is a long-time military veteran who cut his teeth in urban combat around the globe. A specialist in SWAT operations, Wide Scope has seen a lot in his day, though strangely he's rather well-adjusted; the man is hard to unnerve under any circumstances.

Unless you mock his dog. You see, Wide Scope has an attack dog named Lamont, who has apparently received an inordinate amount of teasing about his name. Most people tend to expect an attack dog to be named MURDERWOLF or CANNIBAL CANINE or BITEY, apparently.

And Wide Scope don't want to hear it.

Usually ready for action at the drop of a hat, Wide Scope is rarely seen out of battle-ready, tactical uniform - he even wears his ski mask to sleep! This dedication to the job and nigh-absolute self control is what ultimately earned the man his place on the GI Joe team.

(Historical Divergence)

One of his very first missions with the team was after the second Cobra Island Civil War, where he assisted Shockwave in a covert operation designed to neutralize a threat to Joe security. Not that there was any killing involved - the threat was an American busybody!

This busybody, Scott Sturgis, was digging up information on the Joes, and the Joes neutralized him (after Wide Scope and Shockwave 'captured' him while disguised as Vipers) quite simply: by giving him a job - one in which he could dig up dirt on Cobra, instead!

After this, Wide Scope continued to serve on the GI Joe team until it was pared down to a skeleton crew by one General Rey, its new commander. At this point, Wide Scope returned to conventional military service - at least, until World War III broke out!

This conflict, a last-ditch effort by Cobra to conquer the world, narrowly failed in its objective... thanks to the GI Joe team. This victory was a narrow one for the Joes however, and as a result the government decided to finally stop holding GI Joe back - once and for all!

With its membership opened back up to all its past members, the GI Joe team was given a blank check with which to fight the likes of Cobra - and other, similar terrorist organizations. A GI Joe once again, Wide Scope can be found fighting for freedom all over the world!

Wide Scope's trusty companion, Lamont is a large black dog that has worked with him for years. Lamont has the ability to inflict Slashing damage in melee (with a bite), move at two sectors per turn, and Track (scent-based, per the power) with value 30 skill.
