Origin:
One of the first mutants of the modern era, Dr. James Nicola Bradley has a self-evolved super-intellect. He has used this massive cognitive power to produce non-lethal weaponry for himself, not to mention several advanced cybernetic modifications of his own design!
Powers:
Super Invention (i): a first-generation mutant, even if he didn't realize it at first, James possesses a 'self-evolved' intellect. Highly intelligent even before this mutation is taken into consideration, he can rapidly develop technology as if his Intellect was of intensity 17.
Cybernetics:
A pioneer of android science along with Phineas T. Horton, James naturally had a knack for designing systems that mimicked - nay, improved upon - the human body. Thus, he has designed and installed numerous significant augmentations for his body, including the following:
* Cyber-eyes (w): James has replaced his original eyes with vastly superior ocular organs of his own design. In addition to providing him acute vision to match his originals, these artificial eyes give James multiple sensory capabilities unknown to normal men.
Functioning at intensity 8, James can make use of both the origin sense and transparent vision powers at will. The former is limited, however, to indicating whether or not someone he is looking at has artificially induced powers (from genetic modification or otherwise).
* Longevity (s): furthermore, James has treated himself with a variety of experimental narcotics and cellular modifications of his very own creation. These compounds have acted to greatly retard his aging process - he's over a century old, after all!
As he appears quite old, James is not ageless, and in fact probably only has this power at intensity 2. However, this gives him a considerable lifespan nonetheless, despite how late in life he probably first administered it to himself. His lifespan can be determined thus:
(normal lifespan (70) minus age longevity acquired (40)) times power intensity cubed (8) plus age longevity acquired (40) = 280 years.
Implant Psychosis Statistic: intensity 4.
Hindrances / Augmentations:
Implant Psychosis Statistic: as a cyborg, James is subject to the problem of implant psychosis. Under duress, he must pass an easy difficulty Willpower action against his IPS, or he will suffer from extreme mental instability for a time - usually until he next falls unconscious.
This instability can take almost any form, but usually makes him even more difficult than usual to deal with - more arrogant, more obsessive, more obnoxious. When subject to IPS, James is at Willpower zero (0) to avoid being even more inexplicable than normal.
Equipment:
Dart Guns (a): James' trademark weapons fire miniature syringes loaded with a variety of payloads of his concoction. The darts themselves only inflict intensity 1 Armor Piercing damage, but can dispense one of the following as a contingent action:
* Knock-out Serum: this 'super sedative' is strong enough to take down even Captain America! Exposure to James' knock-out serum will knock foes out for the duration of an encounter, upon a successful easy difficulty Knock-out Serum (strength) action, at intensity 15.
* Truth Serum: his original claim to fame, James' 'truth serum' could force its victim to answer any questions truthfully, within seconds of it entering their system. That is if James passes an easy difficulty Truth Serum (strength) action, using an intensity of 15.
Skills:
Electronics (i): having studied the manipulation of the electron as applicable technology developed, James is an expert electronicist. He may design, build and repair electronic devices at one difficulty level lower than is usually necessary.
Guns (a): self-taught, as he is in many areas of expertise, James is competent in the use of a wide variety of firearms. While he specializes in the dart guns of his own design, James can wield most firearms at one difficulty level lower than is normally required.
Manipulation (w): the skill describes James' intense persuasive abilities. He knows how to push people's buttons, using both hypnotic and neuro-linguistic techniques to make them to do what he wants - not even revealing his manipulations while doing so!
Martial Arts (a): after doing battle with Nazi super science abominations for sixty odd years, James has picked up a thing or two regarding combat. He may resolve unarmed attacks, dodge incoming assaults, and catch thrown weapons at a reduced difficulty.
Medicine 3 (i): his primary claim to fame, James is a doctor of renown. This talent, in addition to helping him concoct his truth serums and knockout drugs, allows him to perform life-saving surgery when necessary, as well as helping characters recover from long-term damage.
Contacts:
Though he left in a huff, James was Phineas T. Horton's partner for years, and could theoretically rely upon him for help. Besides the Battle-Axis though, it's most likely that the only person this treasonous American could still count as a contact is his fiance, nurse Mary Strong.
After the War, James faded into seeming obscurity, perhaps as penance for his grandiose attack on America. During the next sixty years, he waged a one-man war against rogue Nazi super scientists, which ended only when he was recruited into the so-called x-club.
Calling:
Glory-Hound, with a secondary calling of Repentant: while he may have stayed out of the limelight for the last sixty or so years out of penance for his acts as Doctor Death, the truth is that James loves being superior to others - and letting them know so!
Costume:
In his original guise as Doctor Nemesis, James wore a sort of 'two-fisted doctor' outfit. This included navy blue trousers, a white collared, long-sleeved shirt, a red tie, a navy blue suit jacket, a stylish brown fedora, and a white surgical mask to hide his identity.
After he went bad, James transformed into the evil Doctor Death, and altered his 'look' slightly. As a villain, he wore a white pair of pants, a white collared, long-sleeved shirt, a white tie, a white trench coat, a white fedora (with a black band), and a white surgical mask.
His look hasn't changed much, despite minor variations here and there in its content, since the 1940s.
Personality:
James, while he originally meant well, is a man who ultimately became bitter that he didn't receive the public recognition that his partner, Phineas T. Horton was drowning in after publicizing the Human Torch's creation. This drove him over the edge into bitter, bitter villainy.
He got better of course, but ultimately the staggering arrogance driving James' actions through the years has never been tempered - in fact, it has only grown more intense with his successes. And despite his defeat at the hands of the Invaders, James has had many, many victories!

Story:
Even before he was born, Doctor James Nicola Bradley's life was teeming with the bizarre frills of fringe science. His father, Nicola, was in the employ of Cornelius Shaw, who was building a giant robot that he called a Sentinel - only Nicola didn't know that.
Charged with building a massive generator for a project of Shaw's, Nicola did indeed create the power source required of him thanks to his brilliance. Sadly however, Shaw immediately used the generator to power his massive Sentinel... and it went on a rampage!
Luckily for San Francisco, the x-club had traveled back in time to 1906 to get a blood sample from James' parents, as he was one of the earliest known mutants from the modern era. Accustomed to fighting giant robots, the x-club easily dismantled Shaw's contraption.
Sadly however, Nicola was fatally injured during its attack on the city, and James' mother died while giving birth to him. The x-club then left, only to miss James coming back in time a second time (having already done so with the x-club), to deliver himself!
Brilliant by normal human standards, James' intellect grew by leaps and bounds upon turning sixteen, when his mutation became apparent. To wit, he developed a superhuman intuitive sense about science of various types, which allowed him to become a world-class doctor.
That's where all the money was at, after all. Eventually getting a job at Mercy Hospital, James grew tired of seeing the results of crime filling his emergency room, and made a fateful decision one day to take it on directly... as Doctor Nemesis!
Building special dart guns to inflict his very own truth serum upon criminal scum, James unraveled numerous mysteries around his hospital. His medical knowledge was what got him noticed however, for when Phineas T. Horton needed help building an android, he called James.
And James, finding the enterprise worthy of his time, gladly helped Horton out. Of course, the androids they were developing had... issues with various energy discharges, and James wished to iron those out before going public with their work. But Horton? He was having none of that.
Leaving in a huff, James watched Horton's life burn down around him as his Human Torch ran amok. Taking one of the two androids they built with him, James activated the artificial, electricity-emitting man and convinced him that he was an ordinary fellow - scientist Guy Newton!
When his android began a heroic career as Volton, James resumed fighting crime as Doctor Nemesis - at least, until Horton began to receive acclaim for his work with the Torch. Incensed, since a considerable amount of that was his own, James had something of a moral lapse.
When he was contacted by Nazi agents intent on forcing America out of World War II, James was despondent enough about his current situation to lend them a hand. His plot: to break California off the West Coast, using a powerful earthquake machine known as the Oscillotron!
Assembling a group of minions by hook and by crook, James began calling himself Doctor Death, and had his so-called Battle-Axis seize all the scientists and muscle his plan would require. The only problem was that their work piqued the curiosity of the Invaders.
While his team was tough, consisting of other heroes like himself unhappy with America's status quo for various reasons, the Battle-Axis was no match for the world's premiere super hero team. As you can guess, James' plan came crumbling down around his ears in no time flat!
Left for dead when his own android, Volton, betrayed him, James remained at the base of the Oscillotron when it overloaded. Strangely enough, the Invaders didn't bother looking for a body - which was odd, as often as their foes miraculously avoid certain doom.
As it turned out though, James wasn't dead. Having survived his plan literally blowing up in his face, James skulked back to his previous life, since nobody was keeping an eye out for him. Thus, James returned to his role as... Doctor Nemesis!
Until the end of the war, James continued on as a domestic, costumed crime fighter, being one of the few such men and women who were not present during the Allied invasion of Berlin. Of course, James likely didn't want to risk anyone involved realizing he was in fact still alive.
Too many questions, you see. After the War ended, James saw that there were far too many loose ends dangling for his liking. For one thing, a very large number of Nazi war criminals remained at large, and had dangerously illicit fascist science at their disposal.
Thus, James went off the radar even more than he already had before. Leaving his wife, nurse Mary Strong, James traveled to South America. There, he began a one-man war against various Nazi scientists and their aberrant creations - one which would last for sixty full years!
This effort only ceased when James was approached by Henry McCoy of the X-men, along with several other scientists, who required his aid in reversing the effects of the so-called M-day. Finding the challenge sufficient to his intellect, the acerbic scientist agreed to join McCoy's X-club.
This group journeyed far and wide to determine just what the Scarlet Witch did to deactivate ascendant powers in a majority of the mutant population, including a trip to the past - which ultimately involved James meeting his own parents shortly before their untimely demise.
While the X-club were unsuccessful in reversing M-day, James and the X-club have remained together, save for McCoy himself leaving when the mutant population off the West Coast was split during the mutant Schism. James resides on the island nation of Utopia to this very day.
James is perfectly happy to handle the inexplicable scientific needs of the X-men for now. When not inflicting empirical science on his fellow mutants or the world without, for James has managed to make a name for himself amongst the super-human populace.
For better or worse.
