Origin:

In and of himself, Basil Drake was naught but a normal human. He possessed no special powers, but did have a brilliant mind capable of inventing revolutionary chemical compounds. His intellect, however, came at the price of his very sanity!

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

Colt M1911A1 Pistol (a): in the event that he found himself in danger, Basil kept a pistol at hand in his mansion. This weapon can fire a single round to inflict his Agility +4 damage, or increase that by +1 when used to fire a semi-automatic burst of lead.

Invisibility Compound (i): apparently a mastery of chemistry, Basil has concocted a compound which, when applied to something, would render it invisible! This invisibility functions at intensity 10, but its effects had a limited lifespan, lasting only for the duration of an encounter.

Skills:

Animal Handling (w): a skill he was less known for, Basil is nonetheless a competent trainer of animals, his pack of violent gorillas in particular. He may reduce the difficulty of card play required when commanding, training, or otherwise directing the behavior of beasts.

Chemistry 2 (i): though he has several other marketable skills, Basil truly shines in matters of chemical interactions. He may attempt any action where knowledge of this scientific field is involved at a reduced difficulty, using either his Intellect or Willpower to trump.

Contacts:

Basil Drake seemed ill-equipped to handle socializing with others, which is likely why neighbor Ellen Chadwick had no intention of marrying him. As such, the only person Basil could rely upon for aid in a pinch was his murderous manservant, Chandi.

Calling:

Vengeance: flawed though his logic may have been, Basil was nonetheless motivated by the prospect of revenge. Revenge against his neighbor's daughter for declining his romantic advances, in particular, though anyone who crossed him quickly became a target.

Costume:

Thinking himself a proper Englishman, Basil didn't really wear an outlandish costume or uniform. No, he mostly wore a tuxedo whenever he was going about his business, often navy blue in hue, accompanied with black leather shoes, a black bow tie, and a monocle.

Personality:

Something of a wealthy recluse, Basil seemed haughty, arrogant, and more than a little assured of his inherent superiority. Unhinged on top of this, Basil had no problem murdering those who defied his will, as he simply could not abide the continued existence of such individuals.

Story:

Basil Drake's story is mostly unknown. A reclusive landowner, Basil possessed a mansion all his own, but had no one to share it with. This is why he attempted to woo the daughter of his neighbor, Sir John Chadwick, though this effort was all for naught.

Not taking a liking to him, Ellen Chadwick wasn't about to marry the strange man living next door. Furious beyond reason, Basil decided that the Chadwicks simply had to die. And little did they know that Basil had multiple means by which to achieve this goal!

A genius chemist, Basil had invented a compound which renders objects invisible to the naked eye. Having his Ethiopian manservant Chandi slather the material all over his body, Basil directed him to begin slaughtering everyone in the Chadwick manor, one per day.

Growing desperate as his staff and extended family met their grisly doom at the hands of, well, a pair of ghostly hands, Sir John called an old Oxford classmate, Professor Zog, in to help save himself and his daughter. And soon enough Zog arrived, along with mighty Electro!

Using this Marvel of the Age, Professor Zog waited until the ghostly hands returned to Chadwick Manor anew, and waylaid his murderous mission. Hitting something with a round he fired from his pistol, Zog simply had Electro follow the blood trail next door... to Basil's mansion!

Spying the mechanical wonder trespassing upon his domain, Basil released his pack of savage attack gorillas, but they were no match for Electro despite having the advantage of surprise. The same applied to Chandi, upon his second encounter with Zog's Marvel.

Realizing that his minions had failed him, and that discovery was imminent, Basil refused to face defeat. Turning his firearm upon himself, Basil committed suicide, but not before leaving a final taunt, in written form, for his nemesis neighbor.

When Professor Zog and the surviving Chadwicks entered his home and discovered the note, they were beset by Chandi once more, who had since recovered from his thrashing at Electro's hands - but had since seen his advantage of invisibility evaporate.

Unable to stop him from advancing, Professor Zog shot Chandi dead, his body falling just a few feet from that of his recent employer. While Scotland Yard was called in to sort this mess out, it is unknown what ever became of Basil's amazing invisibility compound.

But knowing Professor Zog, he likely confiscated it like he had many other foes' innovations...!

Hailing from the exotic land of Ethiopia, Chandi was a super strong man who found himself in the employ of Basil Drake. Aside from his apparent super-human strength, he had no special abilities to speak of - though he made liberal use of Basil's invisibility compound.
