* Amongst humans, at least. RV +30 among Predacons / Decepticons / Vehicons, RV -30 among Autobots / Maximals.
Origin:
As are all the Vehicons, Obsidian is an electromechanical entity from the planet Cybertron, and was altered into his current form by the Megatron of his era. While the temporal status of the other Transformers on earth is up for debate, Obsidian is definitely from the future.
Known Powers:
Cybertronian Physique: as are the rest of the Vehicons (whether they be fully sentient or mere drones), Obsidian is a robotic entity of Cybertronian design and origin. As such, this versatile aerial combatant has, by his very nature, the use of these special abilities:
* Body Armor: Obsidian was reformatted with a reinforced steel frame, one that offers him rank value 20 resistance to injury. This makes him immune to most basic human attack forms, and moderately resistant to his fellow robots. His defense breaks down as follows:
RV 20 / RV 6 / RV 2 / RV 0 / RV 0
* Growth: Cybertronians come in all manner of sizes, few of which align with the human norm. Obsidian, for instance, normally stands at around eighteen feet tall in his humanoid mode, which grants him this power at rank value 6 as a general matter of course.
As such, this airborne terrorist possesses a +1 size factor. He thus suffers a -1 RS when targeting human-sized foes, but gains a +1 RS on any damage he inflicts against them, as well as 1 RS of damage reduction against any attacks they, in turn, launch against him.
* Microscopic / Telescopic Vision: all Transformers have the ability to alter their visual sensitivity where distance is concerned. Functioning at rank value 2, these powers let Obsidian see objects up to a mile distant with ease, and allow him to read items on microfiche.
* Radio Transceiver: as are most Transformers on earth, Obsidian is equipped with an audio / video transmission system. This communications rig allows him instant contact with any other nearby Cybertronians, having rank value 20 range (100 miles).
* Resistance / Invulnerability to Disease and Poison: an inorganic life form, Obsidian possesses complete immunity to poisons and organic diseases. He also possesses rank value 100 resistance to more chemically creative forms of disease.
'Bunker Buster' Missiles: Obsidian has a small supply of heavy duty missiles that are designed to penetrate deep - about a half a mile - into the surface of a planet to strike underground complexes. These missiles have the following vehicular capabilities:
Handling RV 20 |
Velocity RV 75 |
Durability RV 40 |
Damage RV 40 2x (-4 RS) Armor Piercing Slashing (fragmentary) |
Chin Turret: complementing his machine gun hands, Obsidian also has an additional turret mounted under his Osprey mode's cockpit. This weapon can fire a short burst of ammunition to inflict rank value 30 Piercing damage, raised by +1 RS in a fully automatic spread.
Energy Blades: being quasi-solid energy constructs, Obsidian's rotors aren't subject to wear and tear; to fix any damage inflicted upon them, he can just flick them off and on again. They can also be fired at an opponent to inflict rank value 40 Energy damage, +1 RS if both are fired.
Flight / Levitation: in his vehicle mode, Obsidian can either fly or hover thanks to his tilt-rotor configuration. He can move with rank value 50 ability, with a top speed of 115 mph in 'helicopter' mode, and 361 mph in his 'airplane' mode - and can switch between the two almost instantly.
Obsidian can also move at his 'helicopter' mode speed in his humanoid form.
Machine Gun Hands: working as side-mounted weapon pods in his Osprey mode and his fingers in his humanoid form, these two banks of five machine guns comprise Obsidian's most dangerously effective offensive capability - few can withstand their prolonged attention.
A short burst of ammunition from one of these barrels inflicts rank value 10 Piercing damage. Each doubling of barrels he uses adds a +1 RS, as does upgrading from aimed fire to fully automatic mayhem. At maximum output, then, Obsidian's hands inflict rank value 75 Piercing damage.
Shape Change: Obsidian can transform between his humanoid form and that of an advanced tilt-rotor aircraft strongly resembling an Osprey. He can make this transformation at will, though it is voice activated ('Obsidian, transform!'). His vehicle mode has these characteristics:

Velocity RV 40 |
Durability RV 20 |
Protection RV 20 |
Limitations / Enhancements:
(none)
Equipment:
Vehicon Drones: in addition to his own, personal armaments, Obsidian (for a time) had access to a small army of drones resembling himself. Non-sentient, these lesser versions of Obsidian could be used to quickly acquire dominance of the skies above any world, even Cybertron.
Consider these drones -1 RS versions of Obsidian himself, though they are not very smart. They can be given simple or complex directions as one sees fit, but creative thinking escapes them, and they can be quickly confounded if left to their own devices for any long period of time.
Quirks:
(none)
Skills:
Aerial Combat: his primary function in his new, Megatron-granted form, Obsidian has quickly learned how to fight to deadly effect while in the air. When doing battle in an airborne state, Obsidian receives a +1 RS on any combat ACT rolls required of him.
Manipulation: in addition to his understanding of military principles, Obsidian knows how the mind works - regardless of its origins. He can use this knowledge to powerful effect, intimidating foes even before they physically see him, and crushing their morale in no time flat.
Military: Obsidian was a tactician and combatant of legendary status even before Megatron got his hands on him. He naturally understands the military mindset, and can easily concoct and execute battle plans under almost any circumstance, even while under heavy fire.
Contacts:
As one of the Vehicons, Obsidian had hordes of Vehicon drones to call upon for assistance should he need it, though these days he's one of the very, very few Vehicons still functional. In addition to his true love, Strika, Obsidian can consider Decepticons in this era allies to some extent.
Likeness:
In his vehicle mode, Obsidian resembles a heavily armed, 'Cybertronized' V-22 Osprey, a tilt-rotor aircraft capable of both helicopter and aircraft configurations, in a brown and beige camouflage pattern. His humanoid mode resembles an immense robot built from spare Osprey parts.
Personality:
Obsidian is a bad, bad person. He willfully delights in the carnage and destruction he causes, and is rather sadistic when dishing it out. He especially enjoys playing powerful symphonic music while on (or above) the battlefield for dramatic effect - and to intimidate foes.
While he can snap into violence with a moment's notice, and do so gleefully, Obsidian tends to get somewhat docile outside of battle. He often flies aimlessly (and serenely) for hours, which is possibly a hint of his former Maximal personality peeking out now and then.

Story:
Obsidian's story is complicated. He was originally a Maximal, one who hailed from an era hundreds of years in advance of our own - and from the planet Cybertron as well. A legendary combatant and tactician, Obsidian was, along with his consort, Strika, charged with Cybertron's defense.
While more than adept at handling conventional threats to the planet's safety, Obsidian was overwhelmed by the sheer, maniacal brilliance that Megatron possessed. This mad genius, you see, had crafted a virus that struck almost every Maximal and Predacon on Cybertron.
Debilitated by this virus, Obsidian and Strika became convinced that Megatron was now the essence of Cybertron, and began to serve him willingly as his new, Vehicon generals. Reformatted, Obsidian's form became that of an advanced, tilt-rotor aircraft resembling a V-22 Osprey.
In this form, Obsidian fought various Maximal survivors, doing so either alone or with a horde of drones similar to himself. It was a hard fight for him, though, as the leader of the Maximals, Optimus Primal, discovered Obsidian's new allegiance and called him on it.
Though he and Strika almost switched sides more than once, they ultimately stayed loyal to Megatron, up until the point that they were blasted into space during the final attack on Megatron's power base, which ultimately saw him (and Optimus) killed in a battle to the finish.
What exactly happened to Obsidian and Strika after they were disposed of is a mystery, but they were fated to eventually return to a Cybertron transformed, changed into a truly techno-organic world. Some time after this occurred, though, Obsidian found himself thrust through time.
The means by which this happened has yet to be revealed, but Obsidian nonetheless wound up on modern day earth - alongside a different Megatron. Regardless of how he got here, Obsidian is still a ruthless villain, and began working with Megatron's flunkies on our world.
This villain was ultimately defeated, as was the Megatron that Obsidian originally served, and he was captured and returned to Cybertron along with that villain's legion of underlings. Whether or not Obsidian will escape, much less return to his own era, remains to be seen.
