Origin:

As are most members of the Direct Action Americans, Bruno is but a normal human, lacking ascendant powers of any stripe. However, he does make use of various advanced implements that he's 'confiscated' on missions here and there, and can thus be considered a high tech 'hero'.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

Physically Disabled / Hearing Loss: while not deaf, per se, Bruno is definitely losing his hearing, thanks to having produced too many explosions without adequate protection. He must make any hearing-related action at two difficulty levels higher than is normally required.

Equipment:

Communication Earpieces (i): the D.A.A. often makes use of encrypted wireless transceivers to synchronize operative activity in the field. D.A.A. earpiece communicators (with sub-vocalization options) have intensity 2 range - 2.5 miles - and have encryption of complexity 10 wired in.

Crown Victoria (i): Bruno's ride, this 1985 LTD Crown Vic has been enhanced considerably by the mutant mercenary known as Mister Matter. While the vehicle was normal off the assembly line, it has received considerable 'after market' modifications thanks to the King of Molecules.

For instance, the car has an overall material strength of 20. The windows are of diamond, the frame built from invium, and so on. The thing is even lubed with buckyballs, so it never requires an oil change. Ever. Bruno's Vic moves as though it had intensity 6 'lightning speed'.

Iridium ™ Satellite Phone (i): to keep in touch with the D.A.A. and avoid being detected / recorded by terrestrial cellular telephone networks, Bruno makes use of an Iridium brand wireless phone, which utilizes a custom-built low earth orbit satellite (LEOS) network.

While the phone can be monitored, it has been retrofitted with scrambling technology of intensity 10 complexity, which makes the thing even more valuable. The thing can be used anywhere on earth, though it still cannot make a call if its signal is jammed with any serious technology...

M-16 / M-203 Combo (a): Bruno's primary battle implement, this weapon allows him to inflict serious casualties on enemy combatants. The M-16 can be fired to inflict his Agility +4 damage in a single shot, +5 in a short, semi-auto burst, and +6 in a fully automatic spread of lead.

Mounted under the 16 is a M-203 grenade launcher. If lead isn't enough to discourage his foes, Bruno can bloop grenades onto them, which can hit anything within firing distance of his location, and inflict intensity 10 fragmentary damage to all uncovered targets within striking distance.

Plastic Explosives (i): since it's his 'thing', Bruno carries all kinds of explosives on him while 'on the job'. He has at least ten pounds of the stuff on him in the field, and can typically create several explosions of up to intensity 12 power, allowing him to destroy most anything he wishes.

Privacy Orb (i): this device generates a field that prevents sound from entering or escaping its field of influence. Three inches in diameter, this glass-like sphere can usually blanket an area within near missile distance with a sound-proofing barrier that works with intensity 15 effectiveness.

Skills:

Boxing (s): to supplement his weapon skills, Bruno has trained extensively in the martial arts - besides, he doesn't kill unless necessary. This skill provides Bruno the ability to divide his pre-card play action score between two attacks, the last of which occurs as a contingent action.

Demolitions 2 (a): though he's a competent combatant, the area where Bruno truly shines is in the field of demolitions. A master level demolitionist, he is almost unnaturally adept at blowing things up, and can trump with either Strength or Agility cards when detonating stuff.

Espionage (i): while he generally acts pretty dim, Bruno has a keen analytical mind, and is good at digging up clues in a crime scene, or otherwise unearthing information about people, places and things. He should receive reduced difficulty on any applicable fact-finding actions.

Marksmanship (a): even though he's a demon with explosives, it's sometimes hard to kill a body with them in a pinch - not without taking yourself out, too. As such, the D.A.A. has worked to train Bruno in the fine art of gunplay, and he can use most firearms at a reduced difficulty.

Martial Arts (a): a complement to his boxing skill, this talent allows Bruno to resolve unarmed attacks with either his Strength or Agility, and reduces the difficulty of actions designed to either lower falling damage or to catch weapons thrown at him or another.

Contacts:

Bruno is a card-carrying member of the Direct Action Americans. He wholeheartedly believes in the group's philosophy and will go to great lengths to pull off the missions it gives him. This is why he gets plenty of their more dangerous jobs - and often works with their 'A-List' operatives.

Calling:

Soldier: while he's never been in any military, Bruno is a true patriot. He likes to think of the D.A.A. as 'his' army, since they're a militia of sorts. He readily does whatever the D.A.A. asks of him, unless they give him a weird order that contradicts their stated principles...

Costume:

Bruno has a quasi-military theme to his uniform, though he's never served in any armed forces. He wears green camouflage patterned pants, black leather boots, black leather, fingerless gloves, a black leather jacket, a white tank top, and a red, white and blue bandana on his head.

Personality:

Bruno is a dangerous sort, being an ardent patriot and having a veritable fetish for really loud explosions. He's loud and bombastic, which may be due to the hearing loss caused by his chosen field of expertise, but most people tend to think of him as being somewhat dim as a result.

Story:

Bruno is an odd duck. He loves all things military even though he never bothered to enlist, and researched the fine art of demolitions on his own. Blowing things up has been an obsession (if not a compulsion) since he lit his first firecrackers on one fateful Fourth of July celebration.

A true patriot, this explosives genius was a natural recruit for the D.A.A. He sees the group as his opportunity to use his skills to protect his country. Since he was an expert in little else than blowing things up though, the D.A.A. had to train Bruno up a lot before they could use him.

This took about a year, but when he was done Bruno had become a lean, mean fighting machine. The only problem is that on his very first mission for the D.A.A., Bruno was caught on camera blowing up a government building, and quickly found himself on the F.B.I.'s most wanted list.

Bruno was eventually captured by the feds, but escaped from his maximum security holding cell before his trial could get underway, having done so in a legendary fashion; he broke out with a stick of chewing gum and a spork. While he had regained his freedom, Bruno had a problem.

You see, it's hard to fight for freedom when you're being hounded by half of the F.B.I. Since he'd become quite an outlaw, the D.A.A. decided to take advantage of Bruno's legal status. This itself was something of a mystery, as most groups try to wash their hands of such legal baggage.

Not the D.A.A., however. This because, since Bruno was already wanted by the feds, he could act with some impunity. Assuming he could avoid getting caught, Bruno didn't have to worry about any of that covert ops stuff or even hiding his identity - everybody knew who he was, anyway.

So, the Direct Action Americans have primarily put Bruno to work on their international operations, publicly taking out anyone or anything they've decided is an imminent threat to the United States, though he's good enough that they bring him home now and then to work on critical missions.

This is when Bruno really shines, as he often gets to work with the D.A.A.'s elite ops, those which actually have ascendant powers. What's more, he usually gets several opportunities to prove he's just as competent as said elites, since he can inflict as much damage as they can...!
