* Wildly popular with children, Pokémon naturally get a slight increase in people's reactions to them - even if the vast majority of people think thy are 'just' the residents of a whimsical world generated by their televisions and Japanese culture to take all their money...!
Origin:
Treecko is a Pokémon, one of at least 649 known types of super-powered creatures that primarily reside on a variant earth close to our own. While he's essentially an oversized gecko, Treecko possesses various plant-like powers, making his exact biology somewhat confusing.
Known Powers:
Pokémon Physique: Treecko is a Pokémon, a rare (in our reality, at least) creature of the (of course) Treecko variety. This small, gecko-like creature has several super-human powers, many of which happen to be common to all Pokémon:
* Clinging: thanks to the small climbing claws on his rear legs, Treecko can generally clamber up vertical surfaces with ease. He possesses this power at Feeble (2) rank, allowing him to climb at incredible speeds - up to 30 miles per hour!
* Damage Reduction: being super-powered animals of various types, Pokémon are rather durable. Treecko, for instance, possesses a base 1 CS of damage reduction, allowing him to reduce the damage of any attack that strikes him by 1 CS - pretty handy, that.
Being of the grass type though, Treecko possesses various vulnerabilities. Versus Pokémon powers that are of a bug, fire, flying, ice, or poison type (or similar powers in the hands of non-Pokémon), Treecko has a minor weakness, having no damage reduction against them at all.
Conversely, Treecko has enhanced resistance to various types of Pokémon power types. When facing electric, grass, ground, or water Pokémon power types (or similar powers in the hands of non-Pokémon), Treecko benefits from an additional 1 CS of damage reduction.
* Recovery: tough little creatures, all Pokémon possess this power. Treecko has this ability at Typical (6) rank, allowing him to restore any lost Endurance each day. He can recover six points of lost Endurance (all of it, really) with a simple, green power FEAT roll once daily.
* Resuscitation: a mystical power Pokémon all possess, this ability allows them to raise the dead with their tears. Treecko possesses this power at Shift 0 rank, and can't actually use it without other Pokémon present - each of which raises this power rank by one point.
* Shrinking: Treecko is rather short, even if he's much stronger than he looks. He stands at one foot eight inches tall, being approximately a quarter of an average human's height. In game terms, he technically has the shrinking power - in a permanent sense.
Having Poor (4) 'shrinking', Treecko has a -2 size factor. As such, As such, he inflicts -2 CS damage vs normal human opponents, and they have 2 CS of Damage Reduction against him. On the other hand, he is at a +2 CS to hit them in combat, while they receive a -2 CS to hit him.
Pokémon Abilities: as do all other Pokémon, Treecko has a special ability, a reflexive power that functions automatically under certain conditions. His is 'Overgrow', which enhances his grass-type powers by 1 CS when his Health is under 1/3 of its maximum.
Pokémon Attacks: a level 46 Pokémon, Treecko has mastered a large number of special attacks inherent to his type. To date, he has demonstrated the following Pokémon attacks (if obeying the 'four powers only' rule, his preferred powers are marked with an asterisk):
* Absorb: one of his first attacks, learned at level six, absorb allows Treecko to drain the Health of others - some of which can be used to restore his own, lost Health - if his opponent first fails an End (res) FEAT against this power's Typical (6) rank.
* Agility: this psychic-type power, gained at level 31, allows Treecko to dramatically enhance his, well, Agility. When he uses his Agility, Treecko will receive a +2 CS boost to this ability score of the same name, thus raising his Hpts to 61 (and making him much more nimble). *
* Detect: Treecko can use this fighting-type power, gained at level 41, to ward off attacks. Passing a green FEAT with this Excellent (20) ranked power, Treecko can ignore any one attack per turn. Each successive turn this power is used raises the difficulty by one color (yellow, then red).
* Giga-Drain: this level 46, grass-type power allows Treecko to drain the Health of others, some of which can be used to restore his own, lost Health. If his opponent fails an End (res) FEAT against Excellent (20) rank, Treecko inflicts like damage, and recovers half the damage inflicted. *
* Leer: this normal-type power, which Treecko knew from 'birth', intimidates opponents with a spooky stare. If his opponent fails a Psc (will) FEAT against this Excellent (20) rank, they will suffer a -1 CS on all defensive maneuvers they attempt.
* Mega-Drain: Treecko can use this power, gained at level 26, to drain the health of other beings, using half of the damage inflicted to restore his own, lost Hpts - if his opponent first fails an End (res) FEAT against this power's Good (10) rank.
* Pound: one of his original powers, Treecko can use this normal-type ability to hold his own in melee. Working at Typical (6) rank, this Pokémon attack is much more potent than simply flailing at a foe with his own Strength - but is less effective than his Slam power.
* Pursuit: this dark-type power, learned at level 16, attacks an opponent with shadowy tendrils to inflict Good (10) Sorcerous damage per strike. If Treecko's foe flees or withdraws during the turn this power is used, though, the damage is increased by +1 CS. Handy, no?
* Quick Attack: using this level 11 normal-type attack, Treecko can ignore the flow of initiative in a given round of combat and attack first - very handy for ambushes and surprise assaults. This melee strike, functioning at Typical (6) rank, can be used to inflict like Blunt Attack damage.
* Screech: gained at level 21, Treecko can use this normal-type power to emit a jarring, high-frequency sound that intimidates and distracts others. If Treecko's foe fails a Psc (will) FEAT against this power's Good (10) rank, they attempt all defensive maneuvers at a -2 CS. *
* Slam: Treecko can use this level 36, normal-type power to perform enhanced Charge maneuvers. This power works at Good (10) rank, allowing him to inflict his Endurance +2 CS when attempting Charge attacks; it's not a lot, but more than he can manage naturally. *
Limitations / Enhancements:
(none)
Equipment:
Magic Ring: given to him by Elys, this mystic doo-dad has ensured Treecko's survival time and time again. It provides him 2 CS of damage reduction, which stacks with his own, inherent defense of this type to give Treecko serious protection from incoming assaults!
Quirks:
(none)
Talents:
Languages / English and Pokémon: Treecko used to be an ordinary Pokémon. However, after Elys captured him and made him her familiar, she gave him the mystic power of speech, allowing him to communicate with others in the English language - he can even read, too!
Contacts:
As the familiar of Elys, Treecko could rely upon her for assistance. Furthermore, that dragon's minions, the villains known as the Tenacious Ten, could also be considered Treecko's contacts. Of course, since that deal's gone sour, you never know who Treecko's friends are these days.
Likeness:
Treecko is a Treecko, a wood gecko Pokémon, and he doesn't look any different than his fellows, really.
Treecko is mostly light green in color, with a shockingly pink underbelly. While he is scaly, being reptilian in nature, his scales are very small and subtle. Also, he has large yellow eyes, and climbing claws on the backs of his feet.
Personality:
Treecko is a surly thing, forced into veritable servitude by Elys at a very young age. He's learned all his best dirty tricks from her, and has evolved into quite a smarmy little smart mouth. Treecko is fast on his feet and quick to plot an advantage in most any situation.

Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Treecko is an oversized wood gecko with super-powers - he tends to stand out in a crowd (assuming you could see him within a crowd of humans, that is).
Story:
On a variant earth closer than you think, there's a world teeming with super-powered animals known as Pokémon. They generally live in harmony with both nature and man, and as a result life on this world is a bit more advanced - and more peaceful - than our own.
One day, a Pokémon known as Treecko was summoned at random from this world into our own by Elys, a powerful technomantic dragon. She desired a potent mystic familiar to do her bidding on earth, and Treecko's quasi-magic physiology made him an excellent choice.
Finding himself far from home, in the midst of a truly frightening creature, Treecko agreed to serve Elys in exchange for not being eaten. However, Elys didn't just want a familiar - she wanted a minion she could trust, one that could interact with the world of men where she couldn't.
As such, she granted this Treecko the power of speech - he could now communicate with both Elys and humans in their own 'common' tongue. This language is at least common to most humans in the planes from where Elys came from, though it is known as 'English' here.
Armed with this new talent and a magical ring that considerably enhanced his defenses, Treecko was more than happy to run various errands for Elys - it got him away from the terrifying beast, after all. These were mostly simple jobs, too - steal this, find that, etc...
In the course of these missions, Treecko grew in skill, mastering all the powers a Pokémon of his type can learn naturally. He felt ready to evolve, as beings of his type are wont to do, but Treecko held off knowing that, should he grow more powerful, Elys would find him more useful.
And thus keep him around longer.
As such, he simply bided his time, focusing on retaining his original form while working for Elys. He's grown bitter over the years though, as he doesn't feel what he's doing is right - if he's going to do bad things, he wants to do them for his own benefit!
Eventually, Elys ran afoul of an enemy she couldn't defeat, in the form of a gang of vigilantes that Treecko himself crossed on one of his errands. This errand, to seize the severed hand of another technomage, Morbis, was interrupted when those heroes captured him and said hand.
Enraged beyond reason, Elys attacked them en masse, causing them to seek her out. Though far away from her, Elys managed to keep track of their progress through Treecko, as she can cast her various magics through him - a knack that tends to make Treecko very uncomfortable.
Her many and varied efforts to defeat and waylay these heroes failed though, and Elys was ultimately slain by her foes. Severely battered and bruised in this encounter (he was used as a club at one point), Treecko still managed to survive this ordeal - and win out in the end.
With Elys' death you see, those heroes ransacked the considerable hoard in her Antarctic lair. Distracted and drunk with greed, they lost track of where Treecko had gotten to - and didn't really realize he was gone until he'd made his escape through a portal mechanism inside Elys' home.
This gateway, which emptied out into New York City, allowed Treecko to hide until he could get his bearings. Thinking that Elys' hoard was rightfully his, what with him having assembled a large portion of it, Treecko has decided to seize it for himself - no matter the cost.
So, the world has likely not seen the last of Treecko...!
Notes:
This Treecko is a refugee from the original version of my Variant Earth 13 campaign. When I first made it, Variant Earth 13 was a mishmash of my original characters and just about everything I had on the site - along with a lot of stuff I hadn't gotten around to actually going public with.
I've since cleansed other people's creations from the v13 world, as far as I know, and thus this fellow had to go. He was vital to the plot of my e mail game however, so I didn't want to just delete him. It didn't seem right to me, so you know, here he is. Enjoy?
