* Stinger Drivers will generally have either Boxing or Martial Arts as a skill, but not both unless they are exceptional fellows. If an Officer goes with Boxing, he or she will have a d code for both Strength and a c code for Agility; this is the standard Stinger Driver choice for the most part. On the other hand, if they go with Martial Arts, a Stinger Driver will have an x code for Strength and a b code for Agility.

Origin:

Those Cobra operatives who become drivers for the advanced Stinger 4x4 Night Attack Vehicle are the elite amongst the already exceptional Cobra officers. Those officers who are appropriately qualified are given extensive training in vehicle to vehicle combat techniques, and trained in great detail about the Stinger and how it works. Though it's hard getting there, many officers prefer this job to infantry duty.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

AK-47 Assault Rifle (a): this Russian-built rifle is built to last, being readily adapted for almost any duty imaginable. It may discharge a single shot to inflict one's Agility +4 damage, a short burst of rounds to inflict their Agility +5 damage, or a fully automatic burst of ammunition to inflict one's Agility +6 damage. The latter burns magazines, but Cobra Stinger drivers carry several on hand.

Helmet (s): all Cobra Stinger drivers wear a helmet to increase relative safety on the field, and to protect from the ever-deadly head shot. Made of material strength 10 metals, this helmet offers its wearer intensity 8 (+2) protection from physical attacks that strike them in the cranium. This may not be enough to deflect all damage in a given instance, but it nonetheless helps to save lives.

Knife (s): though they'd rather not do so, all Cobra Stinger drivers are equipped to fight hand-to-hand in the event that they completely run out of ammunition (and they usually carry several spare magazines to prevent this). These blades are of material strength 12, and in a Cobra Stinger driver's hands, they can inflict their Strength +2 in slashing damage with each deadly strike.

Stinger 4x4 Night Attack Vehicle (i): the equipment that makes the Stinger driver distinctive from ordinary Cobra officers, this four wheel drive, off-road, Jeep-like vehicle is exceptionally deadly. Capable of being driven almost anywhere, and armed with four powerful missiles, the Stinger is a powerful addition to Cobra's arsenal that is described in its own vehicular description.

Skills:

Boxing (s): all Stinger drivers are trained in at least one form of unarmed combat once they hook up with Cobra, if they don't already have one under their belt. A majority learn the fine art of boxing, allowing them to divide their pre-card play action score between two unarmed melee attacks per exchange, the last of which will occur as a contingent action. *

Detective / Espionage (i): one of the skills that give Cobra Stinger drivers an edge over their subordinates is their ability to worm their way into a facility and then pose as an ordinary staff member, whether it be a nuclear power plant, defense contractor, or even a television station. Stinger drivers perform all infiltration attempts, and any other detective action, at one difficulty level lower than is normally required.

Guns (a): a given prerequisite, all Cobra operatives must have the ability to use a gun in combat; no one can advance to the rank of Stinger driver without having mastered at least one firearm. Any Stinger driver can use a regular, semi-automatic, or fully automatic gun or rifle with proficiency, doing so at one difficulty level lower than is normally required.

Martial Arts (a): a rare few Cobra Officers transform their unarmed fighting style into an art form. Those who have managed to do so will be able to lower the difficulty of actions intended to catch thrown objects, reduce falling damage, or strike their opponents while unarmed at a difficulty that is one level lower than is typically called for. *

Military (w): a quasi-military organization, Cobra encourages an easily recognizable (to those within, at least) command structure. As such, those not bringing experience in such matters tend to pick it up quickly, to rise through the ranks; those who don't typically don't get this far. This skill gives Cobra Stinger drivers an edge concerning military protocols and procedures.

Vehicular Combat (a): well trained in this aspect of warfare, all Stinger drivers are given a several month long course in how to most effectively fight vehicle to vehicle, or to use a vehicle to advantage against infantry troops. While driving, they can to use their Agility instead of Strength when making vehicular attacks, and are allowed to use Agility instead of Intellect to determine their declaration order.

* Remember: Stinger Drivers will usually either Boxing or Martial Arts, but not both. Were some to indeed have both they'd probably be promoted out of this rank into something more flashy and/or better paying.

Contacts:

Cobra Stinger drivers theoretically have the entire organization of Cobra as their contact, in that they are members of the group and supposedly have the same goals. However, if it is more convenient to let a driver get captured or otherwise take a fall, the Cobra Command is more than happy to let this happen. Unless a specific Stinger driver has something the Command needs, he or she is ultimately expendable.

Calling:

Various Callings: the vast, vast majority of Cobra operatives have joined up for their own, evil purposes, so choose a villainous calling and go with it! Nominally, Cobra Stinger drivers are motivated by Greed or aspirations of World Domination, but anything else can really apply. For instance, Storm Shadow hooked up with Cobra to gain Vengeance, etc.

Costume:

The standard Cobra Stinger driver's uniform consists of a light gray jumpsuit, accompanied with a light gray helmet, and bears the Cobra sigil, in red, on the front upper torso. The uniform is then complemented by black gloves, black boots, a black strap-on knife sheath, a black, pouch-riddled belt, black webbing with pockets for extra magazines, and a black face mask.

Notes:

Stinger drivers are the best there is at what they do, being highly trained terrorists who know the capabilities of their designated vehicles inside and out - this in addition to their already strong military and infiltration skills. Stinger drivers are highly ranked in the Cobra infantry, and are often placed in charge of missions - especially those which involve the use of one or more Stingers.

2009 Variations

Equipment:

Sidearm (a): though they never bothered with one before, Cobra's Stinger drivers began carrying a backup piece with them on missions in 2009. They may discharge this firearm to inflict their Agility +4 damage in a single shot, or their Agility +5 damage in a semi-automatic burst of gunfire. As is the case with their AK, Stinger drivers carry several magazines for this piece.
