Origin:
Like most of his GI Joe teammates, Thunder is but a normal human, lacking a truly exceptional origin - one with no occult training, genetic mutations, encounters with beings from Beyond, or even freak happenstance that may have given him ascendant abilities.
Known Powers:
(none)
Limitations / Enhancements:
(none)
Equipment:
Helmet: knowing just how deadly most artillery can be (what with him being the guy usualling firing it), Thunder always wears a helmet while on the job. This device offers him Good (10) protection from any physical attack that strikes him in the cranium.
Monocular: this handy device gives Thunder the effective vision of an eagle. Enhancing his range of vision to line-of-sight, this lens enhances his ability to spot, and thus obliterate, enemy positions. Other than that, though, this device offers him no special bonuses.
Sidearm: a backup weapon should Thunder find himself unable to use his Slugger, this vest-holstered piece is his last martial resort in a pinch. It can inflict Typical (6) Shooting damage with a single shot, or Good (10) Shooting damage in a semi-auto burst.
the Slugger Self Propelled Cannon: Thunder loves this beastie, a 175mm gun on wheels. When he's not jamming on heavy metal music, he's usually firing this thing, either at Cobra gear or on the test range. The Slugger is detailed in own vehicular description.
Quirks:
(none)
Talents:
Driving: while mostly an artillery expert, Thunder has also learned how to drive most ground vehicles when necessary (after all, many really big guns are mounted on a vehicular chassis). When driving such a device, Thunder can attempt any required Control FEATs at a +1 CS.
Guns: a large portion of Thunder's Army training involved him learning how to effectively wield guns. When firing a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, or even an oddball gun like a shotgun, Thunder may do so as though his Agility score was +1 CS in rank.
Marksman: on top of his training in the use of guns, Thunder has also been well educated in the use of more intense hardware. Whether he's firing a mortar, an anti-tank rocket, or even the cannon on his Slugger SPC, Thunder may do so as though his Agility was +1 CS in rank.
Martial Arts type B: while he does prefer to utilize guns (really big ones) in combat, Thunder has nonetheless been trained in the use of unarmed fighting techniques - just in case. As such, the man can attempt any unarmed melee attack as though his Fighting score was +1 CS in rank.
Military / United States: serving as a handy origin for his many skills, this talent represents most of the ability granted by Thunder's basic training. It imparts unto him an instinctual understanding of military protocols and procedures, and grants him several additional military contacts.
Performer: when he isn't making noise with his Slugger, Thunder is often making noise with his drums. He can do so either in an official capacity, when working with the Army's marching band, or just when making amateur heavy metal.
Contacts:
As a member of GI Joe, Thunder can naturally rely upon his fellows in that organization for assistance should he need it, since the only time he's likely to get into trouble he can't handle is while on a mission for that group. Besides, the Joes always look after their own!
Costume:
When on the job, Thunder wears a practical, comfortable field uniform. It consists of a black pair of trousers, a brown, long-sleeved shirt, a green bullet-proof vest (with gun holster mounted on top), a green leather belt, a green helmet, brown leather boots, and black leather gloves.
Personality:
Thunder likes loud things. He was born around noise, grew up in a noisy part of town, and digs loud music. He's not happy unless noise is blaring around him, whether the source is his stereo or the report of a gun he's firing. He also has an unnatural love for peanut brittle.

Story:
Thunder was born and raised next door to a Louisville, Kentucky foundry. While it isn't certain, this may account for his need for noise - he was around it thoughout his childhood. This definitely explains his love for heavy metal music, and why he went for artillery training.
After all, when asked why he chose such a specialty, he simply replied 'I want to hear them go bang.' He's quite the competent artillerist, too, knowing his job in and out; it makes his job that much more satisfying when he actually blows something up outside of a test range.
Thunder's skill and quirkiness got him noticed by the GI Joe team, who was adding a new weapon, the Slugger, to its ever-growing arsenal. Since they needed several folks with the skill to man these things, they scooped Thunder up and got him the necessary vehicular training.
He served with GI Joe for several years, participating in all kinds of missions against Cobra, a terrorist organization determined to rule the world. Most of these have yet to be declassified, of course, so their true nature has yet to be revealed. Save for one notorious one, of course.
While on a supposed 'milk run' in Trucial Abysmia, Thunder and several other Joes ran into more opposition than they had planned for, and were captured. Their ersatz jailers, Tomax and Xamot, misinterpreted the dictates of their Commander, and ordered their prisoners killed.
When their would-be assassin (a Cobra's SAW-Viper) opened fire on the captured Joes, several of them attempted to shield their fellows from the gunfire with their very bodies, Thunder being one such Joe. As such, he died on the spot, helping a few teammates escape with their lives.
After dealing with their foes, the surviving Joes originally sent on this mission collected the bodies of their fallen comrades, including Thunder's, to give them a proper burial upon returning home. In fact, Thunder received a burial in the Arlington national cemetery.
A posthumous honor, but one nonetheless.
