Origin:

As is the case with most members of the GI Joe team, Jinx is naught but a normal human - strictly speaking, anyway. While she has no special powers, Jinx has highly advanced hand to hand combat training thanks to the Arashikage ninja clan (the 'family business'.)

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

Katanas (s): while she prefers her naginata, Jinx can also effectively wield her swords in a fight, as well. She can use these two shorter sword blades to inflict her Strength +4 damage with every deadly strike, and can actually handle two of them at once!

Naginata (s): Jinx's weapon of choice, she can wield this double bladed, staff-like weapon with ease. A two-handed weapon, Jinx can use her naginatas to inflict her Strength +4 in either blunt or edged damage, depending on if she hits with the flat of her blades or the edges.

Shuriken (a): because sometimes you need just a bit of range, Jinx usually has at least two shuriken on her person at any given time. She can fling these short, disc-like weapons to inflict her Strength +2 in lethal damage, easily hitting targets within near missile distance.

Skills:

Acrobatics 2 (a): possessing a grace almost unheard of, Jinx is able to move in a seemingly liquid fashion. A master acrobat, she may reduce the difficulty on attempts to dodge incoming attacks and reduce falling damage by one difficulty level, using either Strength or Agility to trump.

Boxing (s): more than just a competent hand to hand combatant, Jinx excels in fighting unarmed. She can divide her pre-card play action score between two unarmed attacks, the second of which will occur as a contingent action.

Climbing (s): Jinx can ascend and descend vertical surfaces as if she were a natural-born mountain climber. She may reduce the difficulty on any climbing attempts (in either an up or down direction), with added bonuses when she has climbing equipment handy.

Crime (a): Jinx is a ninja! While she's not criminally minded, per se, she can definitely skulk around with the best of them. She should receive a reduction in the difficulty of card play dedicated to hiding attempts, blending in, opening locks, or picking pockets.

Detective / Espionage (i): after her original stint with the military, Jinx worked for the CIA for a short while. During this time, she acquired additional skills in intelligence matters, and should receive a reduced difficulty in matters of information extraction.

Guns (a): though she doesn't need it, nor does she ever use it, Jinx has been trained in the art of gunplay by the Army. She may fire any standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol at one difficulty level lower than is normally required.

Languages / English and Japanese (i): officially, Jinx worked as a translator for both the Army and the CIA, though of course she had other duties for both government agencies. Nonetheless, she can read, write, and speak in both of these languages with ease.

Martial Arts (a): once again, Jinx is a ninja! She may reduce the difficulty of actions intended to dodge attacks, catch thrown weaponry, or attack in melee at a reduced difficulty - this on top of her high-level acrobatic capability.

Oriental Weapons (s): it may not be much of a surprise, but as a ninja Jinx has trained extensively in the use of various weapons with origins in the Orient. She may use such weapons, including crossbows, kris, katana, sais, shuriken, and even washizashi without penalty.

Skill / Naginata (s): while she can use most Oriental weapons with competence, Jinx excels in the use of her naginata. She may wield it or any similar weapon at two difficulty levels lower than is usually required, either while intact or split in half.

Skill / Swords (s): similarly, Jinx is well-versed in the use of most swords, whether her shorter blades or longer ones like a broad sword. She can wield these weapons at one difficulty level lower than is usually necessary, two if built in an Oriental style.

Military / United States (w): after returning to America upon the dissolution of the Arashikage ninja clan, Jinx enlisted in the Army. As such, she knows the SOP in an almost instinctual manner, and can easily integrate herself into a martial environment when necessary.

Two Weapons (s): Jinx has trained extensively in the art of wielding two weapons simultaneously. She can do this with swords or with a naginata broken in half, and can divide her pre-card play action score between two such attacks, the last of which occurs as a contingent action.

Contacts:

Jinx is a member of the GI Joe team with strong links to both the Ninja Force and the Tiger Force, two 'elite' groups within that organization which are very tightly knit. She also has several additional contacts in the form of surviving Arashikage ninja clan members.

Calling:

Soldier, with a secondary calling of Peace of Mind: Jinx does what she does because she's always trying to be the best she can possibly be - which can be hard sometimes, when everybody's going out of their way to assume that she's just not good enough.

Costume:

Jinx wears a rather conspicuous costume as a GI Joe operative. It includes a loose-fitting pair of red trousers, a loose-fitting, long-sleeved red robe with a dragon emblem over the left breast, soft red shoes, a black belt, and a red hood she often takes off to wear a blindfold, instead.

Personality:

Jinx is one of the nicest, most outgoing people you're ever likely to meet. Why, you'd hardly ever guess she was one of the single most deadly people on earth today. Though highly skilled in the lethal arts, Jinx does not bring them to bear unless absolutely necessary.

Story:

Jinx comes from a long line of Arashikage ninjas, martial artists of the highest caliber. Though her parents were completely with the clan, they felt it a good idea to move to America for reasons unknown, and Jinx spent her early childhood unaware of her heritage.

Of course, this all changed when upon her seventh birthday, her family returned to Japan for a time. Once she was told what her history was, Jinx decided to follow the family traditions, and excelled in multiple martial arts styles throughout her high school years.

Upon her graduation from high school, Jinx was brought into the Arashikage clan as a full member, and continued her training at their ninja compound in Japan until calamity - wrought by Cobra - broke the clan up. Jinx then returned to the States to continue her career.

In addition to spending time training with the Arashikage Blind Master, Jinx also served time in the United States Army, and it is believed that she spent at least a little bit of time working for the CIA This continued until she was recruited onto the GI Joe team by Hawk.

Jinx proved her capabilities time and time again with the Joes, either on her own or when working with her various teammates. She has shown that in addition to being an incredibly deadly combatant, her infiltration and espionage skills are second to none.

She has served on several of the GI Joe group's 'special teams' in her day, such as its Ninja Force (alongside several other members of the Arashikage clan, including her cousin Storm Shadow) and its Tiger Force, both of which prove just how useful the Joes find her.

(Historical Divergence)

When the Joes were deactivated for a time, Jinx moved to Japan again, and began a bounty hunter and bail bondsman business with fellow Joe and romantic interest Budo - even though their diametrically opposed disciplines causes them tension now and then.

Although the GI Joe team has since been reactivated, Jinx has chosen to stay in the land of her birth, though she's more than happy to lend a hand to the team whenever they need her experience. This happens more often than not, with Cobra occasionally up to no good in Japan.

When she's not helping the Joes, she's rounding up all manner of criminals with Budo, and the two have a reputation for being very, very good at what they do. But then they are former Joes, as well as master martial artists, so what else did you expect?

Machine Gun (a): though it defeats her purpose, Jinx can nonetheless discharge a single round with this weapon to inflict her Agility +4 in damage, a short burst of rounds with it to inflict her Agility +5 in damage, or fire it continuously to inflict her Agility +6 in damage.

Her fifth field ensemble is different than her previous, and is comprised of loose-fitting white trousers with a gray dragon on the left leg, a loose-fitting, long-sleeved white robe with red trim and a gray dragon over the left breast, soft white shoes, and red wrist guards.

2013 Variations

Equipment:

Dagger (s): when she needs to cut someone or something and needs her other hand free, Jinx often uses this. It is made from m.s. 13 materials, and can either be used to cut through items of up to like m.s., given the time, or to inflict +2 slashing damage in melee.

Forearm Blades (s): when she wants to use sword-like blades but is somewhat limited in her mobility, Jinx often makes use of these implements. Strapped to her forearms, hence the name, they operate just like swords, but require less space to wield in a like fashion.

Grappling Hook (s): an excellent climbing aid, this tool is a four-pronged hook attached to a considerable length of rope. Jinx can use this device to ascend walls, cliffs, or other structures even easier than is normal for her, making a path of sorts for others all the while.

Nunchaku (s): two strong wooden poles held together by a rugged chain, this weapon can be used to inflict punishing, crushing damage on Jinx's foes. She can spin this implement in order to strike in such a fashion that it inflicts her Strength +3 in bashing damage.

Submachine Gun (a): though it defeats her purpose, Jinx can nonetheless discharge a single round with this weapon to inflict her Agility +4 in damage, a short burst of rounds with it to inflict her Agility +5 in damage, or fire it continuously to inflict her Agility +6 in damage.

Costume:

Jinx's sixth GI Joe field uniform consists primarily of a black and crimson leather bodysuit, one she accents with black and steel leather boots, black and orange leather gloves, red shoulder pads, brown web gear, holsters, sheathes, and hip pouches, and gray knee pads.
