As is the case with the rest of the Oktober Guard, Red Star is not a super-human - he lacks special powers of any variety. No, he merely has his extensive training and experience, along with various Soviet-produced weaponry, with which to protect the motherland!
AK-47: a mainstay of Soviet-bloc nations for decades, the AK-47 is tough and dependable. It can be fired to inflict RV 6 Piercing damage in a single shot, RV 10 Piercing damage in a short burst, or RV 20 Piercing damage in a full auto spread.
Grenade: Red Star always carries at least one of these devices with him in the field. It can be flung up to a sector distant, and will explode to inflict RV 30 Slashing (fragmentary) damage to every uncovered target within its detonation sector.
Hand Cannon: this bizarre weapon is a hand-held, dual-barreled Gatling micro-cannon. Fed from Red Star's backpack, it can lay out RV 20 Piercing damage in a short burst, raised to RV 30 Piercing damage in a fully automatic spread.
Knife: a must for any serious combatant, Red Star carries a blade on him at all times. His knife is made from MV 30 materials, and can be used to either cut through items of up to the same MV (given some time) or to inflict Slashing damage in melee.
Radio: as leader of the Oktober Guard, Red Star must remain in contact with its directors at all times. His radio can send and receive transmissions with RV 6 range (250 miles), and is equipped with RV 20 signal encryption.
Rocket Launcher (v1): useful for dealing with pesky Cobra aircraft, this device launches powerful explosive projectiles at Red Star's foes. This weapon can fire one rocket at a time, at which point it must be reloaded. These projectiles have the following vehicular characteristics:
RV 30 Slashing (fragmentary)
Sidearm: in the event that his other weaponry is impractical or unavailable, Red Star keeps this firearm in a handy chest holster. It can inflict RV 6 Piercing damage in a single shot, raised to RV 10 Piercing damage in a short burst of lead.
Unpleasant Habits: Red Star is a compulsive smoker, and it's rare to see the man without a large cigar dangling out of his mouth constantly. This tends to put some folks off (those who dislike smoke), and such individuals react to him as if his Repute was -2 RS in rank.
Boating: originally of the Black Sea Regiment of the Soviet Naval Infantry, Red Star knows how to operate most sea-faring vessels. Whether serving as the captain, the navigator, or in any other role, Red Star should make applicable nautical actions at a +1 RS.
Guns: naturally, Red Star knows his way around most firearms, whether built by a Warsaw Pact nation or anyone else. When firing a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Red Star may do so as though his Coordination was +1 RS in rank.
Languages / English, Russian and Ukrainian: though a native of the Ukraine, Red Star has mastered English and Russian in addition to his mother tongue. He may fluently read, write and speak in any of these languages - a skill that has served him well as a Soviet commando.
Leadership: Red Star has it. While many Soviet officers were in it for personal glory or advancement, Red Star actually cares about his country and those who serve it. Any group he commands should benefit from a 100 point addition to their Fortune pool while following his lead.
Martial Arts style 2: though he's an expert marksman and even a good shot with his rocket propelled grenades, Red Star can easily defend himself without weapons. Whether punching, kicking or even biting an opponent, he should do so at his Melee rank +1 RS.
Military / U.S.S.R.: the source of all his marketable skills, Red Star can thank the Soviet Navy for his incredible aptitudes. He can easily fight in most any modern combat unit, and knows the ins and outs of the Soviet command structure and its procedures quite well.
Sports / Chess: while not a physically demanding 'sport', chess is definitely an advanced game of skill. An Odessan chess master since he was but eleven years old, Red Star can be considered an expert in this game, and should receive a +1 RS in any chess-related activities.
Red Star is the new leader of the Oktober Guard, and can readily rely upon his subordinates for assistance should he but ask; the group is rather tightly knit in nature, and despite being an 'outsider', Red Star has already proven his mettle both on and off the field.
Red Star's first Oktober Guard field uniform is utilitarian. It consists of a long-sleeved, tan camouflaged shirt atop a blue and white striped T-shirt, brown trousers with red stripes down the sides, gray leather boots, green webbing and sheathes / holsters, and his trademark blue cover.
His second uniform is somewhat similar to his first. It includes a long-sleeved gray shirt atop a plain white T-shirt, gray trousers, black leather boots, green webbing and pouches, gray sheathes / holsters, and again his trademark blue cover.
Anatoly is a smart, learned individual. He likes to plan several moves ahead, which has served him well in the Soviet military structure. He's also quite a brave and stand-up guy, and wants to protect his land from both external and internal threats at all costs.
Real Name: Anatoly Fyodorovich Krimov, Grade Captain
Occupation: leader of the Oktober Guard, commando operations
Legal Status: citizen of Ukraine with no known criminal record
Marital Status: single
Alias(es), if any: none
Group Affiliation: the Oktober Guard
Height: 5' 7"
Hair: brown, later black
Weight: 160 lbs
Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Anatoly has an uncanny similarity to the late Col. Brekhov.
Anatoly grew up in Odessa, now a part of the independent nation of Ukraine. He was something of a boy wonder, showing incredible intellect as a youth. He quickly developed a love for the game of chess, and by the age of eleven he'd become one of Odessa's chess masters.
Also a scholar of history, Anatoly has studied many Soviet heroes in great detail, and his monograph on Boris Godonov is considered the definitive work on the man. Of course, revering the heroes of his nation's past, Anatoly enlisted in the military himself - and did time in Afghanistan.
Having proven himself over the years, Anatoly has become an exceptional representative of the Soviet Naval Infantry's Black Sea Regiment, and when tragedy struck the Union, it proved to be quite an opportunity for Anatoly. You see, the legendary Colonel Brekhov had died.
Slain in Sierra Gordo, the leader of the Soviet Union's Oktober Guard left the team without a leader - and mostly without members, for that matter. Not wanting some party slob to lead the nation's very best volunteers for brownie points, Anatoly vied for the late Brekhov's job. Hard.
Pushing with everything he had, Anatoly indeed became the leader of the Oktober Guard, his sterling service record and lengthy list of accomplishments showing that he was the perfect man for the job. He was even given the mighty code name of Red Star!
While this may've quickly become politically embarrassing, Anatoly kept it even after the dissolution of the U.S.S.R., using it in the continued actions of the Oktober Guard. One such mission saw him launching into space itself to work with the GI Joe team to clean up one of the Union's old messes.
You see, a Soviet mad scientist had put into action a plan to transform an asteroid into a deadly weapon, and it was on its way to earth. Along with several of the Guard's American counterparts, Red Star and Daina managed to save the entire planet from this deadly weapon.
While his further activities at the helm of the Oktober Guard have yet to be detailed, it's a sure bet that Anatoly, as the one and only Red Star, has continued to acquit himself well - both for his nation and for those who follow his lead - to this very day!
