the Ferret

The Ferret is a small, four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle used by the criminal Cobra organization. They are lightweight and heavily armed, and can be used for a variety of purposes, from high speed raids to simple sentry work. Ferrets have an m.s. of 8, and the following features:

Cobra-band Radio (i): Cobra gear uses a communications scheme of its own, not beholden to conventional broadcast standards. The Ferret in particular has comm gear with intensity 5 range (25 miles), and benefits from intensity 8 signal encryption as well.

Com-Bat Rockets (i): the Ferret has two rockets, mounted between its off-road tires. These rockets are 'laser seeking' projectiles, meaning they fly towards any target highlighted with a targeting beam. They inflict intensity 10 damage, raised by +1 if both hit at once.

Propulsion (a): making up for what it lacks in durability and protection, the Ferret has plenty of speed to spare. It possesses this ability at intensity 3, which allows it to zip along on relatively level terrain at 90 mph, though it must go slower on rougher terrain.

Machine Guns (a): the Ferret has twinned 20mm machine guns mounted on the front, which is aimed by the steering wheel; it points at whatever the wheel is. It can be fired to inflict the driver's Agility +6 damage in a short burst, raised to +7 damage full-auto.

Side Slug Cannon (a): this long-barreled cannon is mounted on the side of the Ferret, resting to the driver's left. It can be loaded with up to ten 50mm shells, each of which can be fired to inflict the driver's Agility +7 damage, but can only hit whatever is in front of the Ferret.

1988 Variations

the Tiger Paw

On occasion, GI Joe manages to capture Cobra's equipment, and puts it to good use. The Tiger Force is notorious for this, and often repaints and refurbishes Cobra Ferrets to transform them into their Tiger Paw vehicles. Functionally, the two vehicles work exactly the same.

2006 Variations

Cobra Ferrets and Coil Ferrets

Both Cobra and an offshoot organization, the Coil, made use of the Ferret in 2016. Instead of coming in Cobra blue or Tiger Force orange, the Cobra version is a camouflage gray in hue, while the Coil variety features a green camouflage scheme - and yellow weaponry.

Aside from being redecorated, these Ferrets are functionally identical to the previous two models.

2013 Variations

Covert Ops ATV

In 2013, another GI Joe sub-team made use of the Ferret. The Night Force version, an all-black (save for the green seat) Covert Ops ATV replaces the vehicle's armaments with a removable missile launcher, whose projeciles function per the above. It then adds the following:

Headlights (i): the Covert Ops ATV features twin lamps that emit green light, which is less conspicuous during night conditions - and don't attract insects. These emitters work at intensity 6, illuminating the area in front of the ATV, but can't be used in a blinding attack.
