Origin:

Like the vast majority of his fellow Joes, Iceberg is but a human, even if he may seem to be possessed of super-human skill in frigid climes. He has no ascendant powers, whether they come from an occult background, genetic mutation, divine providence, or anything else.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

Arctic Gear (s): when on the job, Iceberg wears an insulated, fur-lined winter coat, some face protection (goggles and/or a frost-free face mask), a knitted hat of some sort, insulated boots (with crampons), insulated trousers, and if without a vehicle, skis and ski poles.

Beretta 9mm (a): on any mission he may find himself, Iceberg will usually carry this standardized Army sidearm. This semi-automatic handgun can be fired to inflict his Agility +4 in damage in a single shot, or his Agility +5 in damage in a semi-automatic hail of lead.

Knife (s): Iceberg always carries a blade with him on missions, for you never know when you need to cut something. This 'Arctic Assault Razor-Edged Machete' is made from m.s. 14 metals, and allows him to inflict his Strength +2 in slashing damage in melee.

Rifle (a): Iceberg's primary combat implement while a member of GI Joe is a simple rifle, bucking the trend that his team-mates follow with their rather large, fully automatic arms. This gun can be fired to inflict his Agility +5 in damage per shot, and has eight rounds per magazine.

XJT Baseball Grenades (i): Iceberg always has two of these devices handy regardless of his other mission-based gear, explosives he can use to inflict intensity 10 slashing (fragmentary) damage to everything within near missile distance of where they detonate.

Skills:

Boxing (s): one of the standard abilities he picked up in the Army, refined by years with GI Joe, this skill describes Iceberg's unarmed fighting ability. Iceberg can divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed attacks, the last of which occurs as a contingent action.

Guns (a): one of the universal talents he picked up in basic training, this skill allows Iceberg to use most any gun in battle. Whether it be a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Iceberg may wield it at one difficulty level lower than is usually required.

Military / United States (w): the wellspring from which most of Iceberg's talents are derived, this background skill describes his inherent understanding of military protocols and procedures. In addition to this, the military skill provides Iceberg two additional military contacts.

Piloting (a): Iceberg operate fixed-wing aircraft with ease, though it is unclear if he acquired this knowledge in the Army or before then. Regardless of where it came from, this skill allows Iceberg to attempt control actions when flying an airplane at a reduced difficulty.

Sports / Skiing (a): his love of the snow has caused Iceberg to learn how to ski - a sport he engages in whenever possible, whether on or off the job! When operating regular skis, or even his jet-powered snow board, Iceberg should receive a reduced difficulty on applicable actions.

Survival (w): it's no secret that Iceberg loves the cold. If stranded in a cold environ, Iceberg can easily find enough food, water, and shelter to get by until he can get himself out of said situation. Even if he's rarely in a hurry to do so, when you get down to it.

Teaching (w): as his secondary military specialty, Iceberg has been charged with the education of his fellow soldiers in the fine art of cold weather survival. He has been trained how to dispense information to others, not to mention make it 'stick' properly.

Contacts:

A member of the GI Joe outfit for quite some time, Iceberg can naturally depend on his teammates for assistance in a pinchit - especially from his fellow cold weather troopers, who he works with quite often. He also has additional, as of yet undocumented as of yet military contacts.

Calling:

Soldier: Iceberg, for the most part, enlisted to escape his intolerably hot home town. However, once he grew accustomed to the military, as well as the fight against Cobra, the man found that he respected his duty to give his all to Uncle Sam, and has no problem doing his part.

Costume:

Iceberg's original GI Joe field uniform consists of white insulated trousers, a white insulated jacket beneath a fur-lined, blue-green vest, white insulated, fur-lined boots, dark green insulated, fur-lined gloves, a white leather belt, a white cap, and green goggles and web gear.

Personality:

Iceberg hates heat - he always has, and always will. That's why he prefers to work on the ice, and which is why he tries to keep his cool at all times - he knows that one mistake while on the job will kill him. That's also why he makes sure he's really darn good at what he does.

Story:

Iceberg grew up nice and toasty in Brownsville, Texas, where he learned to loathe the heat. Brownsville summers get so hot that you can literally spit on the concrete and watch it boil away. While his peers saved their allowance for bicycles, he instead saved up for an air conditioner.

When he enlisted, Iceberg requested that he get to serve in Alaska, and got his wish. While there, he became an expert in cold weather survival, so much so that he is qualified to spread this knowledge to other soldiers. His love for the cold made him very, very adept in surviving it.

His cold weather skills got him noticed by GI Joe, who snatched him up to enhance their ever-growing corps of special-environment soldiers. Naturally, the Joes used Iceberg's talents often during their snow-bound adventures, the first of which occurred in the tiny nation of Frusenland.

He was part of a special team sent to the Arctic nation to back up the newest GI Joe research and development team, Battleforce 2000, as Cobra was moving in on the country. They were selling Frusenland a bunch of Terror Dromes to rile up a combative atmosphere, you see.

The Joes didn't know that the Dromes emitted paranoia-inducing radio waves just yet - not until they fell under their influence, at least. This made the Joes erratic and hostile towards each other, though this didn't stop them from giving the Cobra forces after them quite a pounding.

Ultimately, Iceberg and his fellows were rescued by Battleforce 2000, who'd figured out what Cobra's Terror Dromes were really doing, and knocked them out. Armed with this knowledge, the Joes convinced the Prime Minister of Frusenland to evict the Cobra presence from his country.

Another mission Iceberg was involved with was the retrieval of Cullen Esterhazy, a CIA operative that was assigned to assist the opposition to Chinese rule of the Himalayan nation of Chomo Lungma, after that communist nation absorbed the tiny mountain country back in the sixties.

He was supposed to come home after Nixon hit it off with the communists, but quit and continued to help the locals resist them. This became a diplomatic embarrassment, so Iceberg, along with Chuckles, Scarlett, and Snake-Eyes were sent with CIA Agent Anderson to collect him.

These Joes had a protracted string of misadventures after meeting Esterhazy, which led to them being stranded in Southeast Asia for quite a while. They ultimately managed to get out in one piece, and returned to the States to continue on as Joes until the team was shut down in '94.

(Historical Divergence)

How Iceberg occupied his time between then and GI Joe's reactivation several years later has yet to be revealed, but the man did hook up with his fellow defenders of liberty when they put out the call, and he's been a member of the GI Joe team ever since!

He served the team well, whether they needed his unique skills in polar climates or not, being present at least through Cobra's final attempt at world domination: World War III! Though that terrorist organization pulled out all the stops this time, GI Joe ultimately beat them back.

As such, it's likely that Iceberg remains with the team to this very day, helping them maintain global security in a world who's infrastructure has been devastated, and of course acting to round up those Cobra stragglers who managed to escape the downfall of their schemes.

1993 Variations

Equipment:

Jet-powered Snowboard (i): an entertaining vehicle Iceberg makes use of while navigating the snow-bound landscapes that are his specialty, this is an otherwise-normal snowboard that had been retrofitted with a small rocket thruster. This odd vehicle moves at intensity 3 speeds!

Rocket Launcher (i): Iceberg occasionally carries about a heavy, yet deadly implement of destruction. The laser-guided (for a +1 to hit) missiles that it fires inflict intensity 10 damage, and are as camouflaged as is most of Iceberg's uniform, making them hard to spot.

Costume:

Iceberg's second uniform is brighter than his first. It includes white insulated trousers, a white and gray camouflage insulated jacket, white insulated boots (with green stripes on them), a white leather belt, yellow insulated gloves, a yellow face mask, and gray webbing.

1997 Variations

Costume:

Iceberg's third GI Joe field uniform is comprised of monochrome camouflage insulated trousers, a monochrome camouflage insulated, fur-lined jacket, gray insulated, fur-lined boots, gray insulated, fur-lined gloves, a white leather belt, a white cap, and gray goggles and web gear.
