GI Joe: 1997 Personnel and Equipment
Personnel:
Ace: a gambler through and through, Brad likes nothing more than a good poker game - hence his code name. It's fitting in two aspects, as Brad is also the Joe team's crack fighter pilot, who's downed more Cobra jets than you can shake a stick at! Availability:
Breaker: Alvin is a master of at least seven languages and most NATO radio gear. Despite an initial lack of combat experience, and being one of the youngest men to ever become a Joe, Alvin has proven indispensible as the team's communications officer. Availability:
Duke: with his years of experience in special ops, Duke was an excellent choice to be GI Joe's field leader. Second only to Hawk in the team's command structure, Duke has consistently led the Joes to victory against Cobra over the years! Availability:
Grunt: his sheer enthusiasm for military life helping him graduate Advanced Infantry Training near the top of his class, Robert was a perfect fit for the original GI Joe team. He's been associated with the Joes on and off ever since! Availability:
Gung-Ho: raised in a swamp, until forced to fend for himself on the streets of New Orleans with naught but a blade, Gung-Ho found his time in Parris Island like unto a vacation. Perhaps that's why the GI Joe team so eagerly recruited him! Availability:
Hawk: head of the GI Joe team since its inception in '82, Clayton Abernathy has proven time and time again that he's a capable leader, tactician, and victor in the seemingly eternal war against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world! Availability:
Rock 'n Roll: the Joes' original heavy machine gunner, Craig is from beautiful Malibu, California. He eventually grew up and joined the Army, hoping to make the world a better place, and found that membership in the GI Joe team lets him do just that. Availability:
Scarlett: having trained as a martial artist since she was nine years old, and then being put through more 'dirty tricks' training in the Army, Shana's combat prowess and ability to gain intelligence on various Cobra operations is second to none! Availability:
Short-Fuze: coming from two previous generations of Army guys, it was only natural that Eric would himself enlist. His natural mathematical capabilities made him a demon with a mortar, a skill which made him a candidate for the new GI Joe team! Availability:
Stalker: though he started out as an urban warlord in Detroit, Lonzo cleaned up his act and joined the Army, quickly becoming one of its very best operatives. A qualified Ranger, helicopter pilot, and field medic, Lonzo is an invaluable GI Joe operative! Availability:
Torpedo: a strict vegetarian and obsessive perfectionist, Edward had mastered three martial arts forms before his nineteenth birthday. Parlaying his personality quirks into a successful military career, he became GI Joe's first Navy SEAL! Availability:
Zap: a New York City native, Rafael grew up in awe of the gigantic structures around him. He joined the Army for the education needed to take part in the construction of such buildings, though he now knows how to best take buildings apart! Availability:
Commando Team:
Lady Jaye: a competent actress even before she was recruited by the Army, Alison became a master of espionage with the tutelage of senior intelligence operatives. She's also a master of several obscure weapons, a master linguist, and a competent pilot! Availability:
Snake-Eyes: a singularly mysterious man, the commando known only as Snake-Eyes has experienced nothing but tragedy in his life. However, he's persevered through the years, and become a true force to be reckoned with - as would any other ninja master! Availability:
Storm Shadow: Tommy Arashikage, originally Cobra's greatest ninja, eventually broke free of that organization's influence. Turning his life around, he has since joined the GI Joe team, and works to make amends for his many dark deeds! Availability:
Arctic Mission Team:
Blizzard: Gregory is tough because he has to be, for he knows that with his job as a cold weather soldier - much less the instructor of such - he will become a statistic if he goes easy on himself. And his charges will as well, if he goes easy on them. Availability:
Iceberg: growing up in the intense heat of the Brownsville, Texas summers, Clifton decided he wanted to serve in a much colder climate upon enlisting. He found his element once he was assigned to Alaska, and quickly became one with his frozen environs. Availability:
Snow Job: an olympic contender, Harlan decided best training that he could get, for cheap, could only come from of the Army. Expecting him to compete, you can imagine how unhappy the military was when he instead accepted a job with GI Joe! Availability:
Equipment:
the A-10 Thunderbolt II: since Cobra stole A-10 technology to build their Rattler, GI Joe thought it only fitting to steal some Rattlers to improve on the original model. Thus their unique, VTOL variant on the A-10 Thunderbolt II was born! Availability:
the Navy SEAL Night Landing: this small, lightweight raft, a self-inflatable nylon/polyskin composite, is great for aquatically inserting small forces into enemy territory. It can be driven with a large, outboard motor, or rowed for additional stealth. Availability:
the Silver Mirage: the hue of its namesake, this replacement for the GI Joe team's RAM is a lightweight motorcycle with a heavily armed side car. It is equipped with four tiny missiles it can use to total small vehicles and armored personnel! Availability:
the Slugger: the Slugger is an exceptionally large (175 mm) cannon mounted on top of a big ol' diesel engine. Weighing in at around 29 tons, this massive hunk of metal is one of the most powerful artillery pieces in the Joe arsenal! Availability:
