the Night Landing

The Night Landing is a small, lightweight craft that the forces of Cobra can use on insertions into enemy territory. One can use the 42 HP outboard motor for speed, but they can also rely on the oars alone for stealthy movement on the waves. It has these vehicular capabilities:

.45 Caliber Machine Gun (a): the Night Landing raft's main armament, this front-mounted, air-cooled cannon can be fired to inflict serious damage. It inflicts its operator's Agility +6 damage when firing a short burst, or their Agility +7 damage when firing continuously.

12mm Machine Gun (a): a supplement to the Night Landing raft's primary weapon, this small gun inflicts its operator's Agility +4 damage when firing a single round, their Agility +5 damage when firing a short burst, or their Agility +6 damage when firing continuously.

Bullet-Resistant Construction (s): the Night Landing raft is a self-inflatable nylon/polyskin raft with a bullet-proof engine shroud. It can absorb respectable damage before losing buoyancy (hence its m.s. of 8), though complete deflation requires an aura duration.

Super Swimming (a): though it's not all that fast, the Night Landing raft isn't really built for such concerns. Thanks to its outboard motor, it can achieve intensity 1 speeds (30 mph), though when using its oars it essentially moves at walking speed.

Passengers: the Night Landing raft can easily carry two individuals: a pilot and a gunner. Of course, in some sort of emergency, at least four folks can squeeze onto the raft proper, and likely drag a whole bunch more behind it - or have them cling onto its sides.

Tools (s): to help deal with problems as they arise, the Night Landing raft is equipped with a few handy tools. It has a shovel, useful for hiding the Night Landing (once deflated) to avoid discovery, and a knife, for cutting things when necessary (both of m.s. 12).

Two-Way Radio (i): allowing the pilot of the Night Landing raft to communicate with a home base or other operatives in the field, this two-way communications system functions with intensity 4 power, allowing a maximum ten mile communications range.

1997 Variations

the Navy SEAL Night Landing

When GI Joe first reformed upon Cobra's return to the world stage, it made use of this small landing craft. Directly lifted from captured Cobra Night Landing craft, and given a new, black finish, the Navy SEAL Night Landing raft is otherwise identical.

2014 Variations

the Night Raft

If Cobra is known for anything, it's that it likes a cheap ride. The Night Rafts were proven thirty years ago, so Cobra reissued them in 2014, since manufacturing costs for them are even lower these days. They released Night Rafts in Cobra blue and black this year.
