Origin:
Joseph Colton, the original GI Joe, is but a normal human despite what his many enemies may think. He lacks super-human powers of any stripe, fighting the forces of darkness with naught but conventional military equipment to back him up in the field.
Powers:
(none)
Hindrances / Augmentations:
(none)
Equipment:
Grenades (i): Joseph always carries two grenades with him in the field, both pinned to his belt. These explosives can be thrown to detonate for intensity 10 damage, which affects every uncovered target within near missile distance of where they detonate.
Knife (s): in the event that he needs to cut something in the field, Joseph always carries a blade with him. Made from m.s. 12 materials, this knife can either be used to cut through items of up to like m.s., or instead to inflict Joseph's Strength +2 in slashing damage.
M-60 (a): nothing says victory like a fully automatic machine gun. Joseph can discharge one round from this weapon to inflict his Agility +5 in damage, a short burst of such to inflict his Agility +6 in damage, or fire it continuously to inflict his Agility +7 in damage.
Sidearm (a): a backup for his hog should he lose it, Joseph can wield this old-style Colt .45 to dangerous effect. He may either discharge one round with this weapon to inflict his Agility +4 in damage, or instead fire a three-round burst to inflict his Agility +5 in damage.
Skills:
Boxing (s): a skill he picked up in basic training a long, long time ago, Joseph has learned how to bring a 'kung-fu grip' to bear when unarmed. He can divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed attacks, the last of which he may attempt as a contingent action.
Guns (a): having seen literally decades of action with the military, Joseph knows how to use guns... and how! Whether he's handling a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Joseph may do so at one difficulty level lower than is normally required.
Leadership (w): supplementing his military training, Joseph is a natural leader. An expert in tactics and group maneuvers, Joseph adds a +1 to actions people undertake while following a plan of his devising - as long as they do not deviate from it.
Marksman (s): in addition to being good with guns, Joseph has been trained in the use of heavier weaponry as well. Whenever wielding weapons that typically have a 'line-of-sight' range, like mortars, rocket launchers, and even tank cannons, Joseph attempts to hit without range penalty.
Military / United States 2 (w): Joseph is one of the highest ranking members of the United States Army, being a four-star General, but then he has been in and out of the Army since the 1960s. As such, he knows the military life like the back of his hand.
Survival (w): a part of Joseph's Green Beret training involved learning how to live off the land, doing so without external support at all when necessary. He can survive indefinitely just about anywhere on earth, given minimal opportunities for food, water, and shelter.
Contacts:
As a member of the GI Joe team - heck, as the very first GI Joe - Joseph can easily rely upon the entire membership for assistance should he but ask. Of course, he usually doesn't even need to, as when he's in charge of the team, they'll do what he asks of them without question. Mostly.
Calling:
Soldier, with a secondary calling of Adventurer: Joseph Colton, the original GI Joe, is naturally a soldier at heart, loving his country and defending it to the end. However, even he needs a break sometime, and he likes to go adventuring now and then.
Costume:
While on the job with GI Joe, Joseph wears a simple, but effective uniform. It includes loose fitting Army green trousers, a long-sleeved Army green shirt over a camouflaged T-shirt, brown leather boots, a brown leather belt, a black holster for his handgun, and a green beret.
Personality:
Joseph is a legend among men, military or otherwise, due to his sheer force of presence. The man has seen it all and done it all, and this can be both inspiring and intimidating. He's tough but fair, experienced but flexible, and loves what his country represents.

Story:
Joseph's story is a long one. It began back in 1960, when the man graduated from West Point with the highest possible honors. He was quickly recruited for the special forces, and became not only a Green Beret but an expert in almost all modern military weaponry.
After several tours in Vietnam, the last of which saw most of his men dying in action, Joseph was summoned home for a special mission by President Kennedy himself. He was tasked with the creation and leadership of a unique fighting force the likes of which the world had never seen.
This group, code-named GI Joe, would feature the best of the best that the American military could produce. Though skeptical at first, Joseph indeed led this unit, feeling particularly responsible for its success after President Kennedy was assassinated but a few days later.
Doing his very best, Joseph did indeed assemble the GI Joe team, and the incredibly dangerous missions this team of his conducted have been classified to this very day. It was during this time that he gained the name GI Joe - his men honored him with it.
Eventually growing weary of unending combat, Joseph retired from the Army for a time, walking the earth. Going on several adventures, he eventually fell in with the so-called Adventure Team, which he also wound up leading. He journeyed with these folks for several years.
When this fell through in the late 1970s, Joseph returned to government work, this time as an advanced project's security consultant. Headed by Gi Jane, this project was the creation of a directed energy weapon system the government could use to strike anything in the hemisphere.
He worked there for years, eventually marrying his old teammate Gi Jane, and on one particularly harrowing day got to meet the all-new GI Joe team. This was because a large force of Cobra Vipers tried to make off with the weapon technology in his facility in the Chrysler building.
(Historical Divergence)
Though Joseph was content to simply continue his work with Gi Jane for the rest of his career, he was tapped to run the Joes when its current leader, Hawk, was incapacitated by a gunshot to the back. Reluctantly accepting, he took charge of the GI Joe team once again.
Though they weren't 'his' Joes, Joseph did his best to work with the team - at least until the government replaced him temporarily with General Rey. When this failed, the Joes were reassembled anew, with him in charge of a small unit of the Joes' most dangerous operatives.
He ran this unit until global events spiraled out of control, during which time Cobra tried to take over the entire planet during World War III itself. Thanks to Joseph and his highly trained GI Joe team, this plot for global conquest ultimately failed.
Joseph remains in command of the GI Joe team to this very day, presumably, leading the Joes on a hunt for those Cobra operatives who evaded capture when their greatest plot went belly-up. And there were a lot of Cobras that managed to get away, so he may be busy for a while.
2006 Variations
Equipment:
Revolvers (a): Joseph began carrying dual revolvers while working in 2006, temporarily replacing his Colt .45. He can only discharge one round from these classic handguns at a time, but each of them will inflict his Agility +5 in damage to whatever it is that they hit.
Costume:
Joseph 'GI Joe' Colton's second field uniform consists of green and black camouflaged trousers, a long-sleeved, camouflaged green and black shirt over a white T-shirt, black gloves, brown leather boots, a brown leather belt, brown holsters for his handguns, and a red beret.
2014 Variations
Equipment:
Revolver (s): Joseph continued carrying a revolver while working in 2014, used alongside his Colt .45. He can only discharge one round from this classic handgun at a time, but each bullet it fires will inflict his Agility +5 in damage to whatever it is that Joseph manages to hit.
Shotgun (a): Joseph recently began carrying a shotgun, with which he can fire birdshot to inflict his Agility +4 in damage in a thirty degree arc, buckshot to inflict his Agility +5 in damage to adjacent foes, or slugs to inflict his Agility +6 in damage to a single foe.
Costume:
Joseph's third GI Joe uniform is, oddly enough, a business suit. It consists primarily of a blue jacket worn over a white collared, long sleeved shirt and a black chest holster, blue trousers, black leather shoes, a black leather belt, and a black tie featuring an American flag pin.
