Origin:

Like most of the GI Joe team, Double Blast is but a normal human, one who lacks super-human powers of any variety. No mystical background here, nor psionic schooling, genetic aberrations, or even accident-induced augmentations... not counting his knack with devices, at least.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

Natural Talent: Double Blast has a Knack for devices, whether electrical or mechanical in nature. In essence, this augmentation lends an additional +1 to Double Blast' already-impressive abilities in regards to the repair and/or modification of existing devices - not too shabby, eh?

Equipment:

Browning .50 Caliber Machine Gun (a): the gun he's best known for, this back-breaker requires the use of a tripod. Incredibly powerful, the gun can fire a short burst of ammunition to inflict his Agility +6 in damage, or be fired continuously to inflict his Agility +7 in damage.

Helmet (s): a useful accessory, this headgear increases Double Blast' mission survivability considerably. In essence, it offers him intensity 8, or +2, protection from physical assaults that strike hiim in the cranium. While it leaves his face exposed, it at least it protects his brain.

J2J Pineapple Grenades (i): Double Blast always carries a grenade while working, helping him to blow up any heavy opposition in his way. These devices can be flung to inflict intensity 10 slashing damage to all uncovered targets within near missile distance of where they explode.

Knife (s): in the event that he's got to cut something (or someone) in a fight, Double Blast carries this useful, utility blade. Made from m.s. 13 metals, it can be used to cut through items of up to like m.s., and allows him to inflict +2 slashing damage in melee.

Sidearm (a): a backup piece for his .50, this small handgun is less impressive, but similarly less unwieldy. Double Blast can either discharge one round from this weapon to inflict his Agility +4 in damage, or a three-round burst to inflict his Agility +5 in damage.

Skills:

Boxing (s): part of Double Blast' basic training has involved his learning how to fight unarmed; he prefers not to, but then you never know. Double Blast may divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed attacks, the last of which he may attempt as a contingent action.

Electronics (i): Double Blast went to college to become an electrical engineer, and performs such duties as his secondary military specialty. As such, whenever building or repairing electrical devices, Double Blast may reduce the difficulty of applicable card play by one level.

Guns (a): since he's a heavy machine gunner, Double Blast has been extensively trained in the use of guns.. He can use any standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifles or pistols, as well as more esoteric guns like shotguns or harpoon guns, at a reduced difficulty.

Military / United States (w): the origin for most of his talents, Double Blast has been recruited into the military by the Joes, and as such, knows military protocols and procedures like the back of his hand. Furthermore, he has additional military contacts thanks to this skill.

Repair / Tinkering (a): a real MacGyver at heart, Double Blast can fix pretty much anythin - though he hasn't made a bomb with bubble gum and tin foil... yet. When attempting to modify or repair an existing device, Double Blast can do so with the benefit of a reduced difficulty.

Contacts:

As a member of GI Joe, Double Blast can naturally rely on that group for assistance in a pinch. Furthermore, Double Blast has a decent number of contacts in the military, as well as in professional (engineering) circles - the man's a mechanical genius, after all.

Calling:

Soldier: Double Blast is right at home in the military, being able to showcase his abilities, crushing the enemies of freedom all the while. His role as a Joe heavy machine gunner is the perfect vehicle for him to express his creative side and to prove his self-worth - not bad, eh?

Costume:

Double Blast wears brown camouflage trousers in the field, accompanied by an Army green tank top, black leather boots and gloves, a black leather belt, black web gear to hold various accessories and his back-mounted ammo pack, and black straps and holsters where necessary.

Personality:

Charles is a 'never say die' sort of guy. He doesn't know the meaning of 'quit' or 'I give up.' He truly believes that where there is a will, there is a way - and he applies the same innovative mind that can fix any device with almost no spare parts handy to any tricky problem he may face.

Real Name: Charles L. Griffith, grade E-8
Occupation: heavy machine gunner
Legal Status: citizen of the United States with no known criminal record
Marital Status: single
Alias(es), if any: Roadblock 2
Group Affiliation: GI Joe

Height: 6' 3"
Hair: black (though shaved bald)
Eyes: brown
Weight: 210 lbs
Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Double Blast wears a moustache and a small goatee at all times.

Story:

Double Blast is quite the fix-it man, having an innate understanding of all things electromechanical. He fixed his mother's vacuum cleaner as a child with nothing more than a rubber band that someone pegged him with in school that day - and it's worked just fine ever since.

The same goes for an electrical experiment that his instructor botched in college; Double Blast repaired the apparatus in question with a thumb tack and a ball point pen. His quick thinking got him an 'A' in that class, and naturally attracted the attention of a GI Joe recruiter.

His strong physique, along with his impressive mechanical abilities, got him a job as a GI Joe heavy machine gunner as soon as he cleared basic training - since he proved just how effective he was even then, without field experience. He got his fair share of that soon enough, mind you.

Put to use with his own team of gunners, Double Blast showed how well he can dish out the damage, displaying a propensity for 'shock' tactics on the battle field. He does his best to take enemies by surprise, and with his improvisational knack, he manages that time and time again.

As far as his resemblance to another GI Joe heavy machine gunner is concerned, Double Blast just shrugs at that. 'It happens, you know. S'not like I'm his evil twin brother or anything. Sometimes people just look a whole lot alike. Besides, I'm a whole lot smaller than Roadblock is anyway!'

This remains to be seen, of course, because Double Blast has actually taken to calling himself Roadblock on occasion. Whether this is to simply confuse Cobra operatives or is some jab at the original, we may never know. But, if it is the latter, Double Blast may not be long for this earth!

2002 Variations

Equipment:

Uzi 9mm (a): Double Blast has started carrying an Uzi during those instances where a .50 Caliber cannon would be overkill. He can discharge a short burst of ammunition from this weapon to inflict his Agility +5 in damage, or fire it continuously to inflict his Agility +6 in damage.

Costume:

Double Blast's 2002 uniform is a bit different than his first. It includes monocrome camouflage trousers, a cornflower blue, long-sleeved shirt, black leather boots and gloves, a black leather belt, black leather web gear to hold various useful items, and of course his helmet.
