Origin:

Like the vast majority of his fellow GI Joes, Rollbar is but a normal human, lacking special powers of any variety. While he may have an ability with vehicles bordering on the supernatural, Rollbar simply has his talents and his military gear to fight evil with.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

Helmet (s): Rollbar usually wears this sturdy headgear while at work - after all, he wrecks his rides a lot more than most Joes! It provides Rollbar intensity 8, or +2, protection against physical attacks of any sort that strike him in the cranium.

the Jungle Strike Humvee (i): the first of Rollbar's souped up Humvees, the Jungle Strike is what happens when the man modifies a standard model Humvee for fighting in the Jungle. This powerful all-terrain ride is described more fully in its own vehicular entry.

Sidearm (a): a handy backup should his ride fail him, Rollbar always carries this small hand cannon in the field. He can discharge one round with it to inflict his Agility +4 in damage, or a three-round burst of ammunition to inflict his Agility +5 in damage.

Skills:

Boxing (s): an ability that everyone learns in their Basic training, Rollbar can easily defend himself should he find himself without weapons. He may divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed attacks, the last of which will occur as a contingent action.

Guns (a): a skill everyone picks up in the military these days, Rollbar can easily operate most conventional firearms. Whether he's handling a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Rollbar may do so at a reduced difficulty.

Military / United States (w): serving as an origin of sorts for Rollbar, this talent is the source of almost all his other skills. It describes how he knows the SOP like the back of his hand, and how he can effortlessly function in a military environment.

Repair (a): his one non-military talent, this skill describes Rollbar's impressive ability to 'tweak' a vehicle to its absolute limit - and then modify it even further. Rollbar has master level repair talent, and can resolve such actions with either his Strength or Agility.

Contacts:

As a member of the GI Joe team, Rollbar can readily rely upon his fellows for assistance should he need it; he's bailed them out, in turn, on several occasions. Rollbar also has several additional contacts in both mechanical and military circles.

Calling:

Soldier, with a secondary calling of Thrill-seeker: Rollbar loves building things and engaging in loud, explosive tasks with them. He could do this as a tuner, of course, but he finds doing this in the service of the military much more rewarding.

Costume:

Rollbar's first GI Joe uniform is a rather practical affair. It consists of a collared, dark green jacket over a black T-shirt, black cargo pants with various large pockets to hold gear, black leather boots, a light green belt, and a dark green helmet.

Personality:

Robert has always been an automotive enthusiast, a 'gear head' of the highest order. He likes everything about the internal combustion engine and the vehicles it drives, and spends his time tinkering with them both on and off the job - it's an obsession!

Real Name: Robert D. Dubé, Grade E-4
Occupation: mechanic, vehicle driver
Legal Status: citizen of the United States with no known criminal record
Marital Status: single
Alias(es), if any: none
Group Affiliation: GI Joe

Height: 6' 1"
Hair: light brown
Eyes: blue
Weight: 170 lbs
Other Distinguishing Characteristics: none.

Story:

A long time ago, Robert was a kid who liked cars. I mean, he really, really liked cars. The man was always tinkering with them, restoring his own from parts bought all over the area, building his own auto kits, and even pushing them farther than their design should allow.

He likes nothing more than to build up a seemingly mundane vehicle until it can outperform obvious street racers, and he knows more about the internal combustion engine than anyone has a right to. He could've easily got a job as a mechanic, but Robert longed for more.

Wanting to make a difference, Robert enlisted shortly out of high school, and the military put his 'mad' skills to good use. In addition to working as a motor pool grease monkey, Robert has put time in as an assault driver, usually in vehicles he's custom modified.

Not that the military generally likes to see their rides moved 'out of spec'. One group in the armed forced that does like that sort of thing, though is the GI Joe team, who scooped Robert up before he got himself into serious trouble due to his tinkering habits.

They put him through their grueling entrance exams, and once the man had fought his way through, he was made a full member of the GI Joe team, operating under the code name of Rollbar. And it was an apt name, as he makes good use of them with his rough driving skills.

When he's not upgrading existing vehicles, like the Army's Humvee, Rollbar is usually out fighting Cobra behind the wheels of one. The man has built a small fleet of his custom modified Humvees, and is more than happy to share them with his fellow Joes if they have a need.

He was stuck with the team through thick and thin since he joined it, and has remained a Joe through some of its hardest times, including the Joes' near defeat at the hands of Cobra during World War III. After all, once you've fought Cobra, a demolition derby seems tame in comparison.

2005 Variations

Equipment:

the Night Ops Humvee (i): the third of Robert's souped up Humvees, the Night Ops is what happens when the man modifies a standard model Humvee for fighting in the dark. This powerful all-terrain ride is described more fully in its own vehicular entry.

Costume:

Rollbar's second GI Joe field uniform is as practical as his first. It includes a dark blue, pouch-laden jacket over a black T-shirt, dark blue trousers with various large pockets to hold gear, black leather boots, gloves, and belts, and a black helmet.
