Origin:

As are the rest of the Oktober Guard, Big Bear is but a normal human - strictly speaking, anyway. He lacks special powers, but Big Bear does have significant combat training as well as Russian-built hardware with which to fight threats to his nation.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

(none)

Equipment:

AK-88 Machine Gun (a): Big Bear loves this odd weapon. He can fire a single shot from it to inflict his Agility +4 in damage, a short burst of ammunition to inflict his Agility +5 in damage, and a fully automatic spread to inflict his Agility +6 in damage.

Grenade: Big Bear usually has at least one MB-02 'bunker buster' grenade pinned onto his web gear in the field. He can fling it out to near missile distance, and it will subsequently explode to inflict intensity 10 fragmentary damage to all uncovered targets within near missile distance.

Knife (s): though he prefers his mechanized weapons, Big Bear also carries a blade on the job. Made from m.s. 12 materials, Big Bear can use this knife to inflict +2 damage, or to instead cut through items of up to m.s. 12, given enough time.

Missile Launcher: Big Bear's heavy gear is this dual-tube missile launcher. It can fire two Z2EE4-OO Shinokof surface-to-air missiles simultaneously - though it can also just fire one at a time. A single projectile inflicts intensity 11 damage, while two adds +1 to that.

Skills:

Boxing (s): while he by far prefers to fight with weapons in hand, Big Bear can nonetheless defend himself without weapons quite handily. He may divide his pre-card play action score between two unarmed melee attacks, the second of which he may attempt as a contingent action.

Guns (a): naturally, Big Bear knows his way around most firearms, whether built by a Warsaw Pact nation or anyone else. When firing a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Big Bear may do so at a reduced difficulty level.

Languages / English and Russian (i): though a native of Russia, Big Bear has mastered English in addition to his mother tongue. He may fluently read, write, and speak in either of these languages - a skill that has served him well as an Oktober Guard.

Marksman (a): being a big guy, and tending to carry explosive missiles, Big Bear has mastered the art of firing line-of-sight weaponry. He can readily use most line-of-sight weaponry without a range penalty, and may do so at one difficulty level lower than is usually necessary.

Military / Russia (USSR) (w): the source of all his marketable skills, Big Bear can thank the Russian (previously USSR) Army for his incredible aptitudes. He can easily fight in almost any combat unit, and knows the ins and outs of the military command structure quite well.

Contacts:

Though he's a newer member of the Oktober Guard, Big Bear has the respect of his teammates, and he can readily rely upon them for assistance should he but ask. Big Bear has several additional contacts in the Russian military as well.

Calling:

Idealist, with a secondary calling of Soldier: Big Bear is a good soldier, but that's not why he enlisted. The man has an exaggerated sense of patriotism, above and beyond that of most others who join their nation's armies, and takes every opportunity to show it.

Costume:

Big Bear's first field uniform is simple and to the point. It consists of an olive drab, long-sleeved shirt over a white T-shirt, olive drab trousers, black leather boots, brown belts, web gear, holsters, and sheaths for his equipment, and his light gray, fur-lined cap.

His second uniform is a much darker variation on that theme. It includes a midnight black, long-sleeved shirt over a white T-shirt, midnight black trousers, black leather boots, brown belts, web gear, holsters, and sheaths for his equipment, and his light gray, fur-lined cap.

Personality:

Grigori enjoys life to the fullest. Wild in the extreme and surlier than you can imagine, Grigori is also a fierce patriot, often engaging in ridiculous rhetoric or downright falsehoods to place his 'glorious' nation above all others.

Real Name: Grigori Ivanovich Rostoff, Grade Serzhant

Group Affiliation: the Oktober Guard

Height: 6' 3"

Story:

The Big Bear of Archangel, Grigori got his start in that frigid Russian city many years ago. Headstrong and patriotic, Grigori naturally enlisted as soon as he was allowed, and served his nation with pride in its 103rd Guards Air Assault Division.

In time, Grigori grew in skill and in reputation, and he was selected by the new leader of the elite Oktober Guard, Red Star, to serve in that team's ranks. The Oktober Guard was a collection of the Warsaw Pact nations' best and brightest, and Red Star thought Grigori would fit in well.

Assuming Big Bear as his code name, due to it being a nickname all his life, Grigori brings his skills as an anti-armor and ant-aircraft specialist to the team. Of course, as the 'new guy' Grigori feels he has to work extra hard to earn the respect of his famous comrades.

And he does! Whether he's fighting against Cobra terrorists or other threats to the Russian way of life, Grigori gives it his all, spraying bullets and launching rockets at anyone and anything that threatens his team or his nation - and he does so happily!

Of course, the Big Bear is not all thuggish brute force. No, the man does have half a brain in his oversized head, and he uses it whenever the other tactical minds of the Oktober Guard are otherwise occupied - or when he has to work with the accursed GI Joe team.

Scoffing at their superior numbers and more advanced technology, Grigori thinks they're 'soft', but nonetheless appreciates their own efforts against Cobra - it seems to spare his country a lot of those villains' grief, after all. And it helps him to learn more about those terrorists.

He particularly enjoys driving some of the Joes' more outlandish vehicles against Cobra when the two teams find themselves allied, such as the Attack Cruiser or the Badger... especially the Badger. Something about that ride just drives him wilder than usual!
