Origin:

While the man known only as Croc Master is, in fact, human, calling him 'normal' isn't remotely accurate. He's distressingly strong, and spends as much time on the surface as he does underwater. But then, he wrangles especially violent crocodiles for a living, so there's that.

Powers:

(none)

Hindrances / Augmentations:

Loner: the Croc Master doesn't have much use for other humans, and definitely spends time with his 'babies' in lieu of large congregations of them. His Willpower is reduced to zero (0) on actions required to overcome this loathing of human gaggles, should he have the need to.

Equipment:

Helmet (s): like many Cobra operatives, Croc Master makes use of a helmet that both obscures his features and protects his head from injury. Offering his entire head intensity 8, or +2, defense against physical assault, it also comes equipped with a one hour air supply cannister.

Knife (s): should his enemies (or even his crocodiles) prove resistant to brute force, Croc Master tends to brandish this boot blade at them. Made from m.s. 13 materials, he can use this weapon to inflict +2 slashing damage, or to cut through items of up to like m.s.

Revolver (a): though he doesn't use it, Croc Master nonetheless carries this piece in a hip holster, just in case. He can discharge a single round with it to inflict his Agility +5 in damage to his foes, though it is not designed to engage in semi-automatic fire.

Whip (s): whether wrangling someone or striking at a bit more of a distance, Croc Master knows how to wield this melee implement. He can use it to inflict his Strength in slashing damage to adjacent targets, or can alternately grab or grapple them at range with like power.

Skills:

Animal Handling / Crocodiles (w): while he knows little about other critters, the Croc Master is an undisputed master of his namesakes - as much as they can be trained, at any rate. He may reduce the difficulty of actions to bend crocs to his will, using either Intellect or Willpower.

Skill / Whips (s): while brute force is often enough for Croc Master to impose his will on critters or opponents, a whip is usually good to make a statement - either with fear or with pain. When brandishing such a weapon, Croc Master resolves attacks with one at a reduced difficulty.

Wrestling (s): Croc Master prefers to subdue his foes the same way he does his crocodiles. He can grapple them on an exchange where he inflicts melee damage as a contingent Strength (strength) action, repeating that damage each exchange he can maintain his hold on a like action.

Contacts:

Croc Master's sole reliable contact is Cobra. Sure, he had cultivated a few eccentric customers with his crocodile security corporation, but Cobra's the only one that's kept him on the payroll long-term. The organization loves him because he minimizes their need for expensive security.

Calling:

Animal Nature: in his mind, Croc Master is only human in a physical sense, truly striving to become like his reptilian children in every aspect of his life. Working hard to emulate his babies, Croc Master struggles to achieve a bestial state, not to resist one.

Costume:

Croc Master's costume is mostly self-made. It includes a dark green, crocodile hide vest, holster, left wrist band, and boots, black leather trousers, a steel right wrist band, a steel wrestler's belt with a reptile eye in the center, and a black helmet with red eye slits.

Personality:

Croc Master has more in common with his babies than he does other humans - or mammals, for that matter. He lurks in water with them as often as not, meditating with his nose barely sticking out above the surface, his mind going to strange and distressing places all the while.

Doting over his crocodiles as though they were beloved children, Croc Master displays a murderous rage when the are harmed - whether by humans or other critters. Normally a relaxed, looming presence under normal conditions, his homicidal ire is truly terrible to behold.

Story:

Like most of Cobra's distinctive operatives, the Croc Master has obsessively developed his area of interest to a disturbing degree, bending it towards crime in the process. But when your area of interest can easily kill and consume a human, it's hard to be surprised about that.

He didn't begin as a criminal though, oh no. Obsessed with crocodiles his entire life, the Croc Master initially tried to utilize them in a legitimate business: Guard Gators, Inc. The idea was to have his scaly children guard the property of the eccentric wealthy.

The difficulty there is that the only folks generally inclined to build a reptilian death trap around their property are costumed criminals of some kind or another. And working for such misfits and malcontents is how the Croc Master ultimately wound up in Cobra's orbit.

Seeing his ideas about security being perfect for the remote reaches of their Island, Cobra recruited the Croc Master to secure their turf. As the island was initially a lifeless hunk of rock, Cobra was in the process of populating it with flora and fauna, and Croc Master helped.

Designing a network of shallow canals and artificial swamps, Croc Master then added his unique brand of quick, hostile crocodiles to the mix. Living in the swamps of his own creation alongside them, Croc Master enjoyed life to the fullest, dreaming strange, reptilian dreams.

The first real test of his security concept came when the Oktober Guard invaded Cobra Island. This didn't go too well for the Croc Master, who was defeated by a gun butt to the head, and many of his children were killed by the Russians who had trespassed in his territory.

When the first Cobra Island Civil War erupted, Croc Master threw in with Serpentor, and helped his forces (and, by extension, GI Joe) invade the second Cobra Commander's territory. Once they'd traveled through his swamps, Croc Master simply resumed his normal duties.

Croc Master's membership in Cobra ended soon afterwards, when the original Commander returned to take Cobra back from the imposter who had stolen it. Draining the swamp, after a fashion, Cobra Commander swept away most of Fred 7's supporters and recruits.

This included Croc Master, who was buried alive in the land-locked freighter at the center of Cobra Island. Left in the dark with only tainted food to subsist upon, it was presumed that Croc Master died along with the rest of the Cobras its Commander had deemed traitors to his cause.

(Historical Divergence: Devil's Due Time Line)

In time, another villain calling himself the Croc Master appeared in Cobra's employ, essentially performing the same job as the original. However, this second Croc Master was also murdered by a fellow Cobra - this time, by the Baroness, and her associate, Wraith.

(Historical Divergence: IDW Time Line)

While it appeared that Croc Master had died along with Cobra Commander's other condemned enemies in the Cobra Island land-locked freighter, it seems that this curious Cobra escaped that fate - as did numerous other high-ranking operatives of the organization.

That's not too much of a stretch, however, considering that while sunning himself in the swamps with his children, Croc Master has been exposed to numerous harmful bacteria. These pathogens likely included botulism, which felled his fellow Cobras, so he may have been resistant.

However he managed it, Croc Master continues to lurk within the swamps of Cobra Island to this very day, at least when he isn't setting up a new client with a fresh batch of man-eating, ultra-violent crocodiles. Guard Gator, Inc. never did close its doors, after all!

The crocodiles reared by Croc Master are faster and meaner than their conventional counterparts, benefiting from a +2 to their Agility. Particularly ill-tempered, these primordial reptiles reap the maximum possible benefit from these inherent capabilities:

Fangs (s): the horrible maw of the crocodile is filled with jagged fangs, allowing them to inflict +2 damage in melee combat. With their size and strength, they can easily drag human targets beneath the water to finish them off - and then consume them!

Growth (a): crocodiles are big. Those that have fully matured are assumed to have this power as an always-on ability, simply to describe their size compared to a normal human. Having intensity 4 'growth', then, these critters benefit from a +4 size factor.

Super Swimming (a): when properly motivated, crocodiles can frantically waddle on the ground at up to fifteen miles per hour, keeping up with even most panicked humans for short periods. Underwater, however, they can readily move twice as fast, possessing this power at intensity 1.
