Origin:

As is the case with the vast majority of the GI Joe team, Richard (working under the code name of Dodger) is naught but a normal human - at least, in the physical sense. He lacks super-human powers of any variety, be they from freakish mutations, mishaps of science, or strange and forbidden knowledge. Like his Battle Force 2000 fellows, however, he does have a lot of high tech hardware handy.

Known Powers:

(none)

Limitations / Enhancements:

(none)

Equipment:

Helmet: anyone that drives a heavily armed and armored vehicle into battle will typically wear one of these accessories, because sometimes you have to poke your head out of the thing to drive - making it a great target. Whenever he takes a hit to the cranium, Dodger receives the benefit of Good (10) protection from the damage it would inflict. This helmet also has a headset connected to the Marauder.

Laser Sonic Photon Rifle: a true marvel of modern technology that most of the world doesn't even know exists, this handy weapon is Dodger's pride and joy. It fires a sonic pulse that 'readies' the air to more readily conduct laser beams, allowing him to inflict Excellent (20) Armor Piercing Energy damage per deadly blast of this cannon. It also has a spike-knuckled hand guard for hand-to-hand combat (Edged damage).

the Marauder: this bizarre motorcycle - tank hybrid can function on land or on water, making it a true marvel of modern technology. Furthermore, the rear section can detach to help form Battle Force 2000's Future Fortress, making it fun to drive and vital to the team at the same time. Dodger's Marauder is described in its own, in-depth vehicular entry elsewhere.

Sidearm: in the event that his high tech energy weapons should fail him, Dodger carries a standard firearm with him during missions; you never know, after all. He can fire this trusty weapon to discharge one round, inflicting Typical (6) Shooting damage, or boost this to Good (10) Shooting damage in a magazine-expending burst of lead, which he only does when absolutely necessary.

Vest: keenly aware how much bullets hurt, Dodger typically wears an armored vest into battle - you never know when your vehicle's armor will fail you, after all. This vest, built from state of the art artificial fibers, protects Dodger with Good (10) ability from most torso-based assaults that hit him, whether from the front or back, or in or out of his Marauder.

Quirks:

(none)

Talents:

Advanced Guns: supplementing his considerable ability with conventional firearms, Dodger has received extensive training in the use of rather advanced, powered weaponry. Whenever he's handling high tech weapons such as sonic or laser rifles, particle or rail guns, or even more exotic devices, he may do so as though his Agility was +1 CS higher than is listed above.

Electronics: his secondary military specialty, this talent showcases Dodger's ability to maintain most advanced electronic systems - usually those that are vehicle mounted, but not always. He may perform maintenance and repairs on such equipment as though his Reason score was +1 CS in rank, and should he be so inclined, he receives this bonus when building new electronic circuits as well.

Guns: an essential portion of his military training, this talent details Dodger's ability to wield most conventional firearms in battle. Whether he is brandishing a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle, pistol, or shotgun, Dodger may fire said weapon as though his Agility score was +1 CS higher in rank - he's just that good with the things.

Marksman: a skill he mastered due to his particular line of work in the military, Dodger has learned how to wield most heavy, line-of-sight weaponry when he needs to - usually while behind the wheel of a tank or other treaded vehicle. When operating most artillery weapons, from mortars to main tank cannons, Dodger does so as though his Agility was +1 CS in rank.

Martial Arts type B: a tried and true standby of military training, this talent describes Dodger's ability to defend himself should he find himself unarmed (a difficult feat, considering how much gear he usually has on hand). When wielding no weapons, Dodger may attack others bare-handed as though his Fighting score was +1 CS higher than is listed above, whether punching, kicking, or whatever.

Military / United States: both a skill and an origin, this talent basically describes where Dodger got all of his training (other talents) and high tech equipment. Thanks to his association with the military, Dodger has access to immense resources with which to fight the forces of tyranny, and has an inherent understanding of the SOP (military protocols and procedures).

Repair / Tinkering: his primary military specialty, this talent details Dodger's ability to maintain most vehicles in a ready state of operation. When maintaining or repairing vehicles, whether they be his assigned conveyances (usually tracked assault vehicles) or any other, Dodger may perform such FEATs as though the applicable ability score was +1 CS higher than is listed above.

Contacts:

As a member of the GI Joe team, Dodger can naturally rely upon his fellows for assistance should he need it; the team definitely looks after its own. Furthermore, he's a member of the Joe sub-team known as Battle Force 2000, a tight-knit group of Joes who develop advanced technology for the GI Joe team and readily test it in the field against Cobra and any other enemies of Freedom!

Costume:

When active as the driver of Battle Force 2000's Marauder (which is most of the time, when you get down to it), Dodger wears an interesting uniform that includes an orange tank top under a green vest, green fingerless gloves, a gray wrist band on his right arm, black leather boots, green and gray camouflage trousers, gray web gear, gray thigh pads, and a green and gray helmet.

Personality:

Dodger is the kind of guy who believes in doing something right. Even though he could just lean on electronic devices and other high tech doo-dads, he prefers to know precisely how everything he's doing is supposed to go, in the event that those high tech toys fail him. He's an old hand at military action and is more than happy to lend a hand to the younger types on the team that are still getting the hang of things.

Story:

Dodger has been an armored vehicle combatant for a very long time. He's become an expert in all manner of top of the line electronics that make the operation of tanks and other treaded vehicles dead easy. Of course, he doesn't rely on all this gear; he's learned how to engage in armored combat the hard way, and while he uses advanced electronics, he can drive a tank 'blind'.

This skill is what got him noticed by the powers that be, who were staffing a new unit for the GI Joe team. This unit would be on the forefront of weapons development not only for the Joes but for the military in general, and they could use someone who knew armored vehicles inside and out. Assuming he could pass the terrifying GI Joe entrance exam, Dodger was offered a place on the team.

He managed this, of course, and was placed in GI Joes's new, Battle Force 2000 unit. They first saw action in the Arctic nation of Freusenland, where the team was testing out all of its new hardware. Little did they know that Cobra had been setting up Terror Dromes all over the place, and had finally activated the low frequency mood alteration technology within, causing riots nationwide.

The Joes were affected by these 'paranoia waves' as well, and Dodger and Avalanche got into something of a fight before Blaster figured things out, and convinced everyone to stop beating on each other and put headphones on. Once they did this, Dodger and the Battle Force mounted up, using their gear to take out as many of the Terror Dromes as they could, meeting other Joes arriving in the process.

Helping them fight off a Cobra advance, the Battle Force 2000 turned the tide and won things, proving the viability of their new gear - which can combine to form some sort of super field fortress - in the process. Dodger and company then went on to be a staple of several further Joe operations, at least until the Battle of Benzheen, in which things went horribly wrong for the Battle Force 2000 crew.

While they were advancing through the oil tanks of Benzheen, Battle Force 2000 was targeted by Cobra Commander, who learned of their presence no thanks to the bumbling leader of Benzheen. Destroying all the oil tanks, Cobra Commander managed to wipe out all of the Battle Force 2000 team in one shot, save for Dodger, who somehow managed to survive the intense blast of the detonating oil.

The lone survivor of his team, Dodger was reassigned to work with a small unit of Joes testing out advanced, sonic weaponry soon after. His extant gear was rather close to this, so most of this work was rather easy. He continued on in this capacity until the Joe team's first deactivation, though when the team was intermittently active after this point, Dodger was more than happy to help when asked.

(Historical Divergence)

He did so during the second Cobra Island Civil War and, of course, World War III, where he and his fellow Joes helped to turn the tide of battle, and stoppe Cobra from taking over the world once and for all. With their leader in chains, the group fell apart, leaving Dodger and company to simply mop up and hold things together until the world could rebuild all the damage Cobra caused.

1990 Variations

Equipment:

Laser Pistol: a newer weapon that Dodger has picked up to test along with minor upgrades to his laser sonic photon rifle, this lesser unit is also a bit smaller in the damage it inflicts. Dodger may fire this one-handed weapon to inflict Good (10) Armor Piercing Energy damage per blast, and he can fire about ten shots from this weapon before it requires a recharge for its power pack.

Costume:

After the unfortunate demise of the rest of Battle Force 2000, Dodger started wearing a slightly different uniform. It consists of a green tank top under a red vest, red fingerless gloves, a golden (brass?) wrist band on his right arm, red and brown leather boots, tan camouflage trousers, golden (brass?) web gear to hold tools and such, gray thigh pads, and a green helmet.

2017 Variations

Costume:

Dodger's third GI Joe field uniform is almost identical to his original, Battle Force 2000 ensemble. It includes an orange tank top beneath a green vest, an orange leather belt, green fingerless leather gloves, a gray accessory pack on his right wrist, green and gray leather boots, green and gray camouflage trousers, gray knee and thigh pads, and a green and gray helmet.
