Origin:

Like most of his GI Joe teammates, Cross Hair is naught but a normal human. While he has frighteningly keen vision and a tendency to make no sound at all, the man is still a normal person, at least as far as a lack of super-human powers goes.

Known Powers:

(none)

Limitations / Enhancements:

(none)

Equipment:

Ghille Suit: Cross Hair's preferred 'Spy Troops' gear, this suit helps him to blend in while in the bush. Camouflaged to help him insinuate himself into overgrown environs, Cross Hair's ghille suit inflicts a 2 RS penalty upon any attempts by others to spot him while he's motionless.

Grenades: Cross Hair always has two of these devices handy, pinned to his jacket. He can fling these explosives to inflict rank value 30 Slashing damage to every uncovered foe within his target sector. Mind you, he usually saves these for the absolute last resort.

Knife: Cross Hair always has a blade with him in the field, in the event that he has to cut something - or silence someone quietly. Built from m.v. 40 materials, it can be used to cut through items of like m.v., given enough time, or to inflict Slashing damage in melee.

M-16: Crosshair can discharge one round from this weapon to inflict rank value 6 Piercing damage, a three-round burst to inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage, or fire it continuously to inflict rank value 20 Piercing damage. But wait, there's more!

Mounted beneath the barrel of Cross Hair's M-16 is an underslung grenade launcher. This weapon can bloop grenades out anywhere within three sectors of Cross Hair's person, grenades which inflict damage per the individual projectiles, listed above.

Sidearm: a backup in the event that his other guns fail him, Cross Hair has this weapon handy on a convenient hip holster. He can discharge one round from this weapon to inflict rank value 6 Piercing damage, or a three-round burst to inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage.

Sniper Rifle: his primary tool in the field, Cross Hair can fire this weapon to devastating effect. Each shot this weapon fires will inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage, and it has a scope for a +1 RS to hit (which can stack with aiming maneuvers as well).

Quirks:

Heightened Sense / Vision 2: a handy thing to have as a sniper, Cross Hair has exceedingly good vision. He can see much better than his fellow Joes can, and is able to make vision-based Awareness ACTION rolls at though the rank value listed above was +2 RS higher.

Skills:

Education: his secondary military specialty, Cross Hair is also a marksmanship instructor. Having learned how to teach others most effectively, both in the field and in the classroom, Cross Hair should receive a +1 RS towards efforts to pass his skills along to others.

Guns 2: it may go without saying, but Cross Hair is a very good shot. Whenever he's firing a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Cross Hair may do so as though his Coordination was +2 RS higher than listed above. And you wonder why he's such a good sniper!

Martial Arts style B: a vital skill everyone learns in the military, Cross Hair has the ability to defend himself should he find himself unarmed. When engaging in such combat, whether kicking, punching, or whatever, Cross Hair may do so as though his Melee was +1 CS in value.

Military / United States: a handy 'origin' for all his other talents, this skill describes Cross Hair's Army background and lifestyle. Thanks to his training, Cross Hair can fit seamlessly into a military unit, and has an instinctual understanding of the SOP.

Contacts:

As a member of the GI Joe team who has proven his mettle, Cross Hair can easily rely upon his fellow Joes for assistance should he but ask, either in the field or otherwise. As a marksmanship instructor, Cross Hair also has countless additional military contacts he can call on in a pinch.

Costume:

Cross Hair's first GI Joe uniform is a template for all his others. It consists of a green sweater under a short camouflage green jacket, camouflage green trousers, gray leather boots, gloves, and knee pads, brown belts and holsters, a black neckerchief, and a green Boonie hat.

His Night Force uniform is a variation on this. It includes a gray sweater under a 'short' black jacket, black trousers, gray leather boots, gloves, and knee pads, gray belts and holsters for his gear, a black neckerchief, and a black Boonie hat.

Personality:

Don is a quiet, analytical sort. This helps him immensely in his line of work, but the problem is the man can't turn this off. He seems to apply his skills to friend and foe alike (though the former usually doesn't get shot as a result), which tends to make them jumpy around him.

Real Name: Don S. Fardie, Grade E-4
Occupation: marksmanship instructor, sniper
Legal Status: citizen of the United States with no known criminal record
Marital Status: single
Alias(es), if any: none
Group Affiliation: GI Joe, Night Force (GI Joe sub-group)

Height: 5' 10"
Hair: brown
Eyes: blue
Weight: 170 lbs
Other Distinguishing Characteristics: he's rather quiet all the time; Don makes no unnecessary noise.

Story:

Don has had a grand career in the military, thanks to his particular quirks. Possessing an almost supernaturally keen eye and a strange tendency to be exceedingly quiet all the time, Don proved to be an exceptional sniper. Naturally, the Army put this to good use.

(Historical Divergence)

Skilled enough to eventually become a marksmanship instructor, Don worked in that capacity until he was chosen to join the elite GI Joe team. Of course he didn't get to work in the field right away; Don had to do his time as one of the Joe team's new 'green shirts' first.

Once he'd proven his mettle, Don was promoted and eventually given his own code name: Cross Hair. He was immediately put to action in an operation against Tyler Wingfield, the son of notorious terrorist 'Commander' Wingfield. Naturally, Cross Hair's first mission was a success.

After this, Cross Hair saw further action against Cobra both domestically and abroad, and he was present for the Joes' actions during the second Cobra Island Civil War. He also helped guard Destro while the captured arms dealer was transported by train as a trap for Cobra Commander.

Soon after, the Joe team was deactivated a second time (at least publicly), and Cross Hair shifted to a reserve status in the group, lending his assistance whenever called by the leadership of its third incarnation. One such time came when Cobra instigated World War III itself!

Naturally, Cross Hair was more than ready to defend the United States, and the world itself, from Cobra's last-ditch effort to conquer the entire globe. Narrowly successful in victory, Don and his fellow Joes then merely had the task of rounding up all the escaping Cobras.

A task that continues to this very day!

2004 Variations

Costume:

Cross Hair's third, Tiger Force uniform is a variation on his first. It consists of a yellow-green sweater under a short camouflage tan jacket, grass green trousers, brown leather boots, knee pads, belts, and holsters, black gloves, a tan neckerchief, and a tan Boonie hat.

2017 Variations

Costume:

Cross Hair's fourth GI Joe uniform is another variation on his first. It features a tan sweater under green web gear, camouflage green trousers, gray leather boots, black leather gloves, brown leather knee pads, belts, and holsters, a black neckerchief, and a green Boonie hat.
