the Sky Hawk

The Sky Hawk is a small, lightweight vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft that GI Joe makes good use of when ordinary air support is impractical. These utilitarian, grass-green mini-jets pack quite a punch, and are equipped as follows:

Communications Suite (i): the Sky Hawk is equipped with a radio transceiver system, allowing the pilot to send battle-field data to a central command, and then receive new orders in turn. This functions with intensity 7 power, and has a maximum range of about 100 miles.

Flight (a): the primary feature of the Sky Hawk, it achieves flight by means of two powerful, SK-34 Series 1 high bypass turbofan engines, mounted immediately behind its cockpit. These engines allow the Sky Hawk to fly at 510 miles per hour (intensity 9 speeds).

Levitation (a): the secondary feature of the Sky Hawk is its ability levitate, thanks to its ability to pivot its SK-34 engines ninety degrees. This intensity 7 ability isn't all that effective, but definitely enough to suspend it over an area for quite some time.

Passengers: the Sky Hawk is equipped with landing skids instead of landing gears. In addition to serving a landing purpose, though, they can carry two passengers in a pinch - though it's an extremly windy ride.

SPATS Rockets (i): mounted under the Sky Hawk's cockpit are these two signal processing air-to-surface (SPATS) rockets. These missiles track their targets with a radar lock, and inflict intensity 10 damage to all within near missile distance of where they hit.

Titanium-Alloy Fuselage Skin (s): the Sky Hawk is built with 'light' in mind, weighing in at 7,300 lbs. Nonetheless, the thing is constructed with a titanium alloy fuselage, which provides it a material strength of 10, and provides its operator like (or +2) protection.

Twin 20mm 'Thunderclap' Cannons (a): mounted on a chin turret immediately beneath the Sky Hawk's pilot, this set of two 20mm cannons can inflict serious damage in combat. They can fire a short burst of lead to inflict damage per a +6 weapon, +7 in a sustained stream of fire.

Vulcan 20mm Rotary Cannons (a): these twinned, rotary cannons are mounted in recessed cavities on both sides of the Sky Hawk. They can only point at whatever's directly in front of the Sky Hawk, but their high rate of fire allows them to inflict damage per +8 weapons.

1986 Variations

the Dreadnok Air Assault VTOL Copter

Lightweight and easily portable, the Sky Hawk is occasionally susceptible to theft by the Dreadnoks. They like to swipe a few of these aircraft at a time, and repaint them in a garish, green and burgundy color scheme. Other than that, they are functionally identical.

1990 Variations

the Sky Hawk 2

After half a decade of use, GI Joe overhauled their remaining fleet of Sky Hawk aircraft for use by the Sky Patrol. A perfect fit for that outfit, these battle-tested vehicles now benefit from the following ability, in addition to their standard functionality:

Invisibility to Radar (i): the Sky Patrol Sky Hawks have been fitted with a new, chromium-based technology that deflects radar signals at oblique angles as opposed to sending them back to their source, effectively making them invisible to radar systems with intensity 15 ability.

2005 Variations

the Steel Brigage Sky Hawk

Like the Dreadnoks before them, the GI Joe Steel Brigade acquired several Sky Hawks for their own use. Instead of leaving them as is, though, they repainted them in something akin to a cloudy camouflage color scheme. They're otherwise identical to the original model, however.

2009 Variations

the Ghost HAWK

A modernized version of the original Sky Hawk, the Ghost HAWK (the acronym doesn't seem to stand for anything) is something of a reset for this vehicle. Restored to its basic functionality, albeit with modern materials and electronics, it still works exactly the same!

2010 Variations

the Ghost Hawk

Fitted with lighter, more advanced engines, the second Ghost Hawk (note that the acronym was dropped) can perform the same duty as the previous model. Of course, it can do so utilizing a fraction of the fuel its predecessors required, so there's that.

2014 Variations

the Steel Brigade Ghost Hawk

As they did with the previous model, GI Joe's Steel Brigade acquired several samples of the Ghost Hawk, and put them to use in their own operations. While the Ghost Hawk was dark gray in hue, the Steel Brigade's version has a light gray frame, though otherwise works the same.

2015 Variations

the Ghost Hawk

Though it took six years, the Ghost Hawk finally lives up to its name, having an Arctic weather, white and light gray camouflaged color scheme, along with blue-tinted windows. Retrofitted for cold weather operations, the latest Ghost Hawk has this additional capability:

Resistance to Cold (s): operating aircraft for long periods of time is difficult below zero - particularly when they're VTOL aircraft! Thus, the 2015 model of Ghost Hawk has been designed with such harsh conditions in mind, and can handle up to intensity 16 (+4) cold just fine.
