Origin:

Like the vast majority of his fellow Joes, Shipwreck is nothing but a normal human, having no super-powers of any sort. Though he lacks genetic mutations, psionic skills, or even magical spells, Shipwreck is nonetheless a highly experienced sailor and (later) SEAL.

Known Powers:

(none)

Limitations / Enhancements:

(none)

Equipment:

Hook: Shipwreck can use this hook, tied to a fifty foot length of rope, to grapple a target, board a vehicle, climb a high vertical surface, or even strike an opponent. The latter inflicts his Strength rank in Edged Attack damage to anybody within his current area.

Knives: Shipwreck has carried a plethora of knives throughout his sea-faring career. These blades are typically crafted from Incredible (40) m.s. metals, and can either be used to cut through objects of like m.s., or wielded to inflict Edged Attack damage in melee.

Percussion Pistol: a nod to the past of naval warfare, Shipwreck also carries a black powder pistol with him on missions - hey, it sometimes comes in useful! He can fire a single shot with this weapon to inflict Typical (6) Shooting damage before a reload is required.

Sidearm: Shipwreck always has at least one pistol on his person at all times. These firearms can discharge one round to discharge one round, inflicting Typical (6) Shooting damage, or numerous, magazine-exhausting rounds to inflict Good (10) Shooting damage.

Quirks:

(none)

Talents:

Boating: one of his essential Navy skills, this talent demonstrates Shipwreck's ability to perform just about any sea-bound duty necessary to keep a ship afloat and on course. Whether he's piloting a ship, bailing water, or anything else, Shipwreck rolls applicable FEATs at a +1 CS.

Guns: an essential part of Shipwreck's military education involved learning how to effectively utilize a gun. Whether it be a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Shipwreck can fire it as though his Agility score was +1 CS higher in rank.

Martial Arts type B: having grown up in a Navy town, not to mention having proper military training, Shipwreck can naturally hold his own in melee. He may add a +1 CS to any unarmed attack roll he attempts, whether punching, kicking, or even head butting an opponent.

Military / United States: Shipwreck knows military protocols and the laws of the sea like the back of his hand, and has gained quite a few Military contacts over the years. But then he grew up in a Navy town, and enlisted while still technically a minor, so that's no surprise.

Underwater Combat: even before he was officially trained by the SEALs, Shipwreck had picked up the finer points of battle below the waves through years of trial and error. As such, he may attempt offensive and defensive maneuvers underwater without penalty.

Contacts:

As a member of GI Joe, Shipwreck can naturally rely on his fellows for assistance should he find himself in a pinch - after all, the Joes look after their own. Shipwreck also has a whole lot of contacts in naval circles, whether or not they're actually in the United States Navy.

Costume:

Shipwreck's first uniform included black leather boots, a pair of blue, bell bottom trousers, a light blue, collared shirt with the sleeves typically rolled up, a black leather belt, a black holster for his pistol, a white wrist band for Polly to perch on, and a white sailor's cap.

Personality:

Shipwreck is best described as 'salty'. He's loud, boisterous, and arrogant, an abrasive mix that would seem off-putting save for the fact that he's also quite the charmer. The fact that his deeds can usually back up his mouth doesn't hurt, either.

Real Name: CPO Hector X. Delgado (later SPCO)
Occupation: sailor, Navy SEAL
Legal Status: American citizen with no known criminal record
Marital Status: single
Alias(es), if any: none
Group Affiliation: GI Joe

Height: 5' 10"
Hair: brown
Eyes: blue
Weight: 160 lbs
Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Shipwreck wears a thick beard and mustache at all times.

Story:

Shipwreck grew up amidst the immense naval shipyards of San Diego, and always knew he wanted to be a sailor. Doing so with his parents' consent, since they didn't want to stand in the way of his dreams, Shipwreck enlisted in the Navy at the earliest possible age.

Despite joining the military so young, Shipwreck served with distinction, regularly routing Mekong river pirates and any number of other, unsavory types. It was apparently during his time in Asia that Shipwreck acquired (or was acquired by) Polly, his infamous parrot.

An exceptional, green and orange bird, Polly is much smarter than your average parrot. Alongside the usual imitation, Polly is capable of actual speech, not to mention the singing, the rhyming, and being a general pain in the butt - making him a perfect foil for Shipwreck.

When one of the two isn't currently getting the pair in trouble, the other is most likely up to something. Pretty much inseparable, Shipwreck and Polly have had all kinds of adventures together, even if the duo sound as if they absolutely hate each other at times.

After years of dealing with smuggles, insurgents, and other waterborne hassles, Shipwreck was assigned to Yokosuma. While he was involved with various carrier-initiated military actions in the Middle East, Shipwreck's outstanding performance was noticed by the powers that be.

While a natural at all aspects of naval work, Shipwreck is hard to deal with most of the time. As such, his superiors were happy to pawn him off on the GI Joe team when their recruiters came calling, and he quickly became indispensable to the Joes from his very first day on the job!

While a more than effective Joe, Shipwreck has undergone Navy SEAL training to be even more useful to the team. One of the most intense military training regimens in the world, SEAL training really got Shipwreck in shape, and expanded his operating range considerably.

Becoming a SEAL hasn't changed Shipwreck, save for having even more to boast about than before. He continued to serve as the GI Joe team's primary seaman, whether above or below the waves, doing so with distinction until the group was disbanded late in 1994.

(Historical Divergence)

When GI Joe was deactivated, Shipwreck went into business for himself, acting as an expensive guide for people with too much money. His tours full of the rich were prime targets for pirates and kidnappers, but Shipwreck never lost a single customer or ship to such louts.

Upon its reactivation, Shipwreck immediately shuttered his enterprise and returned to GI Joe. He's been with the team ever since, and has even found happiness that isn't dependent on being shipbound, for he has began seriouly dating fellow Joe Cover Girl.

Who somehow can tolerate the showboating loudmouth.

1994 Variations

Equipment:

Diving Gear: Shipwreck carries gear that allows him to function almost normally underwater. His wet suit, oxygen rebreather, mask, and flippers allow him to act underwater for about four hours, and move at one water speed category higher than he otherwise should be capable of.

Hydro-Blaster: this water-tight launcher can fire two torpedoes at an opponent, projectiles that are more than effective against submarines, surface-based craft of any type and, in a pinch, other undersea opponents. These projectiles have these vehicular characteristics:

Naval Assault Rifle: when working as a SEAL, Shipwreck carries a heavier firearm. This weapon can be discharged to discharge one round, inflicting Typical (6) Shooting damage, a three-round burst to inflict Good (10) Shooting damage, or Excellent (20) Shooting damage during continuous fire.

Costume:

Shipwreck's second uniform primarily consists of a solid gray diving suit, which he usually wears when working beneath the waves. It is complemented with a black belt, black boots, black gloves, and a metallic vest, which is where he mounts his oxygen rebreather.

Of course, when not diving or doing other SEAL work, Shipwreck wears gray trousers, a blue turtleneck, a blue cap, black leather boots, a brown leather belt, and various brown straps to hold a couple of semi-automatic pistols - no need to wear diving gear ALL the time.

2003 Variations

Equipment:

Spy Troops Disguise: since both he and Polly do an uncanny Cobra Commander impersonation, Shipwreck was volunteered to pose as the villain in the field, and as such he was given a rather convincing replica of the Commander's armor - the casual eye can't tell it's fake.

He actually has two versions of this uniform. Both resemble the Commander's new armors, both blue and black in hue, and offer Poor (4) protection from physical attack. While not as sophisticated as Cobra's leader's own armor, it is nonetheless pretty useful in the field.

Talents:

This was so Shipwreck's uniform would match his Spy Troops gear, which is a replica of Cobra Commander's 2003 armor. When wearing this, Shipwreck adds various blue and black armor components, a red and black cape, and the Commander's distinctive helmet to his uniform.

His seventh uniform is similar to his fifth and sixth, save for minor changes to keep up with Cobra Commander's ever-changing fashion sense. His trousers are again gray, and his turtleneck and cap are black. Furthermore, all of his uniform's Spy Troops components are simply black.

2004 Variations

Equipment:

Piranha Attack Boat: after his Spy Troops job was over with, Shipwreck was given a new toy to play with. This fast attack boat, armed with two torpedo launchers and three swiveling gun mounts, is extremely deadly in Shipwreck's hands, and is described in its own vehicular entry.

Polly is the disturbingly intelligent parrot that tends to hang around with Shipwreck. This is no mere bird, imitating things it hears, oh no. Polly is capable of rudimentary speech, can sing songs, and talk in rhyme - and knows what you're saying when you're talking to it.

Polly isn't all that useful in a fight, only being capable of Feeble (2) intensity Edged Attack damage with its talons, and Feeble (2) flight, but there aren't all that many sapient birds out there. Polly also comes in handy when a healthy dose of comic relief is required.
