Origin:

Like most members of GI Joe, Frostbite does not possess super-human powers, having no occult background, psionic schooling, genetic mutations, or anything else of the sort. No, he merely fights evil with government-issued hardware, numerous skills, and sheer gumption.

Known Powers:

(none)

Limitations / Enhancements:

(none)

Equipment:

9mm Sidearm: a nice standby should he be denied the use of his other, heavier hardware, Frostbite always carries at least one of these. This pistol inflicts Typical (6) Shooting damage when firing a single shot, raised by +1 CS in a semi-automatic spread.

Arctic Gear: when he's working in the cold, Frostbite always wears an insulated, fur-lined winter coat, face protection (goggles and/or a frost-free face mask), a knitted cap, insulated boots (with crampons), insulated trousers, and, occasionally, skis and ski poles.

Buck Knife: Frostbite's almost always got a knife with him during missions, in case he's got to cut something - or someone. Made from Incredible (40) m.s. metals, this blade can cut through items of like m.s., and allows Frostbite to inflict Edged Attack damage in melee.

M-16 Assault Rifle: Frostbite always has this firearm with him on duty. Fitted with a starlight scope (for night fights), it inflicts Typical (6) Shooting damage when firing a single shot, raised by +1 CS during semi-auto fire, and +2 CS during fully automatic fire.

Snow Cat: this half-track vehicle is a staple of the Joes' Arctic arsenal. Armed with four surface-to-air missiles and two 'ski torpedoes', this cold weather weapons platform is Frostbite's personal favorite vehicle. The Snow Cat is described fully in its own, vehicular entry.

Quirks:

(none)

Talents:

Driving: though a competent driver before enlisting, Frostbite received professional training during his time at Fort Eustis. As such, he can operate any ground vehicles, from motorcyles to tanks, at a +1 CS to either his Agility or the vehicle's Control rating.

Guns: Frostbite's basic military training involved learning how to use most firearms the US Army is likely to deploy in the field. Whether it be a standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol, Frostbite can wield it as if his Agility score was +1 CS in rank.

Marksman: in addition to conventional firearms training, Frostbite has also received extensive education in the use of the heavier stuff. When utilizing any ordnance with a line-of-sight range (rocket launchers, mortars, ski torpedoes, etc.), Frostbite does so at a +1 CS.

Military / United States: a member of the United States Army, Frostbite has this talent as a general matter of course. It serves as a handy origin of sorts, granting him two military contacts, not to mention an inherent understanding of military protocols and procedures.

Repair / Tinkering: since a large portion of his duties involve repairing and maintaining vehicles, Frostbite is well-versed in mechanical work, no matter what vehicle is involved. He should receive a +1 CS on FEATs called for when fixing or modifying mechanical devices.

Survival: originally a cold weather specialist, Frostbite has since received survival training in multiple climates. Whether he finds himself at the North Pole or the Sahara Desert, Frostbite can assemble enough food, water, and shelter to get by almost indefinitely.

Vehicular Combat: during his time at Fort Knox, Frostbite was well trained in the principles of vehicle to vehicle combat, primarily in ground-based maneuvers. When engaged in such combat, Frostbite may attempt applicable Control or Agility FEAT rolls at a +1 CS.

Contacts:

Frostbite can naturally rely upon his fellow GI Joes should he require assistance, as he can usually take care of himself, meaning that he probably really needs it if he's asking for help. In addition fo the GI Joe team, Frostbite has numerous additional military contacts.

Costume:

Frostbite's first field uniform consists of a black turtleneck sweater covered by an insulated, fur-lined white jacket, white insulated trousers, white insulated leather boots, white insulated gloves, a white fur cap, a black leather belt, a black shoulder holster, and a snow visor.

Personality:

If there's any one word to describe Frostbite's personality, it's cool. And that's not just because of the climes he prefers! He grew up in the harshest terrain on earth, and learned real fast that the key to keeping yourself alive in bad situations is to keep your head about you.

Of course, being one tough cookie helps. Frostbite isn't easily amused, and isn't amused unless he's being challenged. This is what caused him to join GI Joe in the first place - he was bored with his civilian job. This means he'll never balk at a mission, no matter how tricky it may be.

Story:

Frostbite was born in Galena, Alaska, and has always been at home in cold climates. So much so, in fact, that he gets along in the fierce Arctic tundra almost as well as others enjoys a clear spring afternoon. As such, he had no problem working as an Alaska Pipeline lineman.

Well, that's not entirely true; he ultimately found it unchallenging, despite the 40 degree below zero temperatures that he often faced, not to mention on the job bear hazards. This led him to eventually quit due to his dissatisfaction, and he fell in with a 'bad crowd'.

Frostbite engaged in all manner of bad behavior during this time, quite a bit of which was illegal, until he'd had enough of this chicanery as well. This is what prompted him to enlist in the Army - they promised him all the honest challenge he could handle, and he liked that.

After Basic training, Frostbite graduated from Fort Eustis transportation school and Fort Knox armored school. This gave him quite a few vehicular combat capabilities that, in addition to his skills with various firearms, made him an intriguing candidate for GI Joe membership.

Requiring a driver and mechanic for the Snow Cat, a new vehicle that needed to be operated and maintained without support, GI Joe offered Frostbite the job of a lifetime. The idea of battling Cobra in the snow and ice sounded perfect to him - the ultimate challenge, in fact.

Frostbite filled this role for the team for quite a while, but eventually got put through desert survival training as well. This is because the team had reconditioned some of its Snow Cats into desert vehicles, the Tiger Cats, and wanted someone familiar with them behind the wheel.

After managing that, Frostbite was assigned to GI Joe's Tiger Force for a time, though he continues his work as one of the team's cold weather troopers when the Force isn't needed. And Frostbite works quite well with his fellow cold weather Joes, like Iceberg and Snow Job.

(Historical Divergence)

Things went sour for the Joe team in '94, when government cutbacks called for the untimely dissolution of the unit. While he was out of action, Frostbite returned to school, training to become a counselor for teens who found themselves trapped in substance abuse situations.

Taking these classes in the evenings, Frostbite was able to resume his GI Joe membership when the team was reassembled only a few years later. He made it back into the fold right around 2002, at which time he received an all-new uniform, not to mention a brand new ride.

When he isn't trouncing Cobras, and isn't in class, Frostbite can usually be found in the Joes' motor pool, helping to maintain the team's vast fleet of combat vehicles along with Clutch. The staggering array of GI Joe's arsenal makes this just as challenging as a fight with Cobra!

1988 Variations

Equipment:

Tiger Cat: the Tiger Cat is a desert-modified version of the Snow Cat. While its predecessor is at home in exceptionally low temperatures and on the snow, the Tiger Cat is better suited in hot desert climes and on the sand. The Tiger Cat is described in its own vehicle entry.

Costume:

A variant on his first, Frostbite's Tiger Force uniform includes an orange turtleneck beneath a brown leather, fur-lined jacket, orange trousers with black tiger stripes dyed on, brown leather boots, gloves, belts, and holsters, a brown fur cap, and a black dust visor.

1993 Variations

Equipment:

Grenades: though not part of his initial armament, Frostbite eventually began carrying grenades in the field. These devices can be thrown at a target to inflict Remarkable (30) Edged Attack damage to everything within the area they detonate inside.

Heat Cannon: picked up upon his return from the so-called Tiger Force, this thing is a large, heavy energy projector. Not quite a flamethrower, this thing fires twin streams of superheated air at an opponent, inflicting Good (10) Energy damage with each deadly strike.

Pistol-grip Shotgun: Frostbite's shotgun inflicts Typical (6) Shooting damage to targets within a sixty degree arc when firing birdshot, Good (10) Shooting damage to adjacent targets when firing buckshot, or Excellent (20) Shooting damage to a single target when firing slugs.

Costume:

Frostbite's third uniform consists of a gray sweater covered by a similarly colored, insulated and fur-lined jacket, white and gray camouflage, insulated trousers, brown leather boots and gloves, a gray, knitted wool cap, a gray belt, and green webbing to hold his gear.

2002 Variations

Equipment:

Grenades: though not part of his initial armament, Frostbite eventually began carrying grenades in the field. These devices can be thrown at a target to inflict Remarkable (30) Edged Attack damage to everything within the area they detonate inside.

Rockslide (v2): as his Snow Cats and Tiger Cats had been mothballed during GI Joe's deactivation, Frostbite received an all-new ride upon his return. The Rockslide, a heavily modified Polar Battle Bear, has even more armaments, and is described in its own vehicular entry.

Costume:

Frostbite's fourth GI Joe uniform is all new, and consists of an orange turtleneck sweater under a white, fur-lined jacket, white trousers, black and white boots, black gloves, black knee, thigh, and shoulder pads, a green belt, a white visor, a white cap, and a white half-mask.

When driving the Rockslide, Frostbite uses his fifth uniform, a variant on the previous. It is mainly the same in composition, though Frostbite changed his boots and belt to black in hue, and his knee, thigh, and shoulder pads, as well as his gloves, to a bright yellow color.

Frostbite's sixth uniform is another variant on his fourth, and includes a brown shirt beneath a dark green, fur-lined jacket, dark green trousers, dark green leather boots with white laces, black and green knee, thigh, and shoulder pads, a green cap, and a green half-mask.

2003 Variations

Equipment:

the Forest Fox (v2): when assigned to more conventional climates, Frostbite often makes use of the Forest Fox. This BTR vehicle can be field-configured into one of two separate modes - either a 4 x 4 truck or troop transport, and is described in its own vehicle entry.

Grenades: though not part of his initial armament, Frostbite eventually began carrying grenades in the field. These devices can be thrown at a target to inflict Remarkable (30) Edged Attack damage to everything within the area they detonate inside.

Costume:

Frostbite's seventh uniform is an all-new ensemble, consisting of white trousers, a dark green jacket over a blue turtleneck, a white hat, black leather boots and gloves, brown and gray belts to holds various pouches, and a black mirrored visor to prevent snow blindness.

His eight uniform is similar to his sixth in appearance. It includes a khakis shirt under an olive drab, fur-lined jacket, brown trousers, black leather boots, black knee pads, brown thigh pads, green shoulder pads, an olive drab cap, a light green half-mask, and green goggles.

2004 Variations

Equipment:

the Ice Sabre: yet another of Frostbite's arctic assault vehicles, the Ice Sabre is a powerful, heavily armed half-track ride. While similar in ability to his old Snow Cat, the Ice Sabre is completely redesigned from the ground up, and is covered properly in its own entry.

Costume:

Frostbite's ninth GI Joe field uniform is a fresh ensemble, consisting of a light gray, insulated and fur-lined jacked over a light gray turtleneck sweater, light gray trousers, light gray gloves, a light gray cap, light blue leather boots and belts, and a light blue visor.

2005 Variations

Equipment:

Assault Snow Board (v1): mixing work and pleasure, Frostbite occasionally uses this device on the job. It mostly works like ordinary snow boards, save for the two miniature 'ski torpedoes' mounted on the thing, which possess the following vehicular characteristics:

Rifle: when surprise is on his side, Frostbite often uses a high power rifle to do his dirty work. It is armed with a 'scope on top that grants him a +1 CS to hit under ambush conditions, and each round this weapon fires inflicts Good (10) Shooting damage to his target.

Costume:

Frostbite's tenth uniform is a variation on his ninth. It includes a white and gray, insulated and fur lined jacket over a brown turtleneck, white and gray camouflage trousers, white gloves, a dark gray cap, dark gray leather boots, belts, and knee pads, and a mirrored golden visor.

His eleventh field uniform is similar to his seventh. It consists of a white trousers, a blue and white, insulated jacket over a black turtleneck, a white hat, black leather boots and gloves, brown and blue pouch-laden belts, and a black mirrored visor to prevent snow blindness.
