Origin:
The elite amongst Destro's personal guard, his Iron Grenadiers are highly trained subversives. While they do not possess super-human abilities, they are given numerous high tech implements to further the aims of their boss, thus making them all high tech villains.
Known Powers:
(none)
Limitations / Enhancements:
(none)
Equipment:
Body Armor: in addition to obscuring their features entirely, the uniform of each Iron Grenadier acts as a form of armor! It provides most of their body rank value 4 protection from physical attack, though this is raised up to rank value 10 around their helmeted head.
Laser Pistol: a highly advanced sidearm, this weapon serves as a backup piece for the Iron Grenaders. They may fire a beam of coherent photons from it at their foes to inflict rank value 6 Armor Piercing Energy damage, doing so six times per charged power pack.
Saber: while ornate, these blades are certainly not for merely ceremonial purposes. Each Iron Grenadier has a saber made from m.v. 30 metals, which they can use to cut through items of like m.v., or to inflict their Brawn +1 RS in Slashing damage.
Submachine Gun: their primary armament, Iron Grenadiers may fire a single round from this weapon to inflict rank value 6 Piercing damage, a short burst of rounds to inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage, or fire it continuously to inflict rank value 20 Piercing damage.
Quirks:
(none)
Skills:
Advanced Guns: carrying directed energy weapons in the field, Iron Grenadiers are well-trained in their proper usage. Whether handling coherent laser emitters, ionized particle blasters, or any other energy caster, an Iron Grenadier may do so at their Coordination trait +1 RS.
Detective / Espionage: their primary job, Iron Grenadiers are well-versed in various subversive techniques. They use this skill to spy on and sabotage the nations targeted by Destro, destabilizing entire regions to bolster the arms sales of the MARS corporation.
Guns: the better to demonstrate their use to prospective clients, Iron Grenadiers are continuously drilled in the use of all modern firearms. Whether standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic, an Iron Grenadier receives a +1 RS to their Coordination when discharging firearms.
Martial Arts style B: while heavily armed and armored, Iron Grenadiers can competently defend themselves even without their special toys. They may add a +1 RS to any offensive unarmed combat attempt, whether punching, kicking, head butting, or even knee dropping their foes.
Military: the Iron Grenadiers are highly disciplined, with most developing such via some military outfit or another, and Destro supplements this with his own training regimen. As a result, Iron Grenadiers invariably function well in a fighting unit, whether Destro's or any other.
Contacts:
The Iron Grenadiers can readily be considered a reliable contact of its eponymous operatives. Destro's elite, hand-picked personal army may be mercenary in nature, but his personnel fight and live together, and is thus a much more cohesive organization than, say, Cobra.
Costume:
The Iron Grenadiers wear a primarily black suit of padded combat armor into the field, featuring black boots with red trim, a red holster and belt, a golden scabbard, a black and a gold wrist band, a red and gold spaulder, and a black helmet with a black visor and a red face plate.
Notes:
The Iron Grenadiers began as a small group that served as the guard of Destro, within his family palace in Scotland. When Destro decided that Cobra no longer served his purposes, he crafted them into the first wave of his personal army, whose soldiers bear the group's name.
In time, Destro supplemented this force with mercenaries from around the world, hand-picked by him for their skills, usually betraying whatever force they were assigned to upon joining. Naturally, this gives the Iron Grenadiers something of a bad reputation.
However, regardless of the talents they possessed before pledging allegiance to Destro, Iron Grenadiers are all rigorously trained in the skills Destro finds desirable in a paramilitary force. To wit, they are excellent saboteurs, spies, and, of course, salesmen!
Acting to destabilize governments in hotspots around the world, Destro's Iron Grenadiers create a market for his arms manufacturer, MARS. He then sells his wares to all sides in a conflict, and the Iron Grendiers get a cut of gross sales figures - making them highly motivated.
Thus, while joining the Iron Grenadiers is often an act of betrayal, Destro keeps his men and women in line by dangling a ludicrous financial opportunity in front of them for those who seize it. Which is basically what Cobra does - though Destro ultimately pays better.
2003 Variations
Equipment:
Mortar (v1): this weapon allows Iron Grenadiers to launch various projectiles, with significant range, at their targets. The shells that this mortar can fire typically inflict rank value 40 damage, and Iron Grenadiers can load several types of canisters into it, including:
* Explosive Canisters: these dangerous shells will inflict Slashing damage in the sector they strike, as well as -2 RS damage in the sectors surrounding the target zone. These are great for destroying tanks, buildings, or just about anything else, really.
* Incendiary Canisters: these shells inflict 2x SD Energy damage to everybody within the target sector. In other words, flames ignited by such shells burns at a -1 RS in intensity each turn, until those set aflame can pass a Fortitude ACTION roll against the SD intensity of the flames.
* Smoke Canisters: these shells contain smoke that can obscure a target sector with rank value 20 ability. Folks within must pass an Awareness ACTION roll (or pass a similar roll with super-senses or detection devices) to see or sense effectively through the smoke.
Rifle (v2): using this weapon, Iron Grenadiers can inflict damage at considerable range. Though they lack a semi-automatic option, these firearms can discharge rounds that inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage, which makes them perfect for assassinations and ambushes.
